Fsck!! I have 100 DVD-R that won't burn. They're 16x

This sucks!
They are Memorex DVD-R 16x made. The first batch I got was Fuji and I exchanged them for these.
My drive is a NEC 1300-A (oldskool). Why won't these burn? Are 16x discs special?

That's the max speed, but it should burn at lower speed in any burner. My laptop burned is 8x and has no issues on the 16x Sony's that I just got at staples.

dvd drives seem to be really picky for some reason. mine is rated at 16x but when i try to use an 8x rated dvd it shows that it can only burn at like 4x or 6x. one at work will only burn a certain brand. if you have an 8x and try to burn at 8x, it craps out. you can only burn at like 4x.

If it's an old school drive, are you sure it supports -R? My friend had a dvd burner on his old school Dell, and he had to give me all his -R discs because he could only use +R. Nero InfoTool should be able to tell you all formats that your burner supports.

Interesting. I had a 50 pack of bad Memorex CDR's. I emailed Memorex, they assured me they would fix the issue and send me new ones.....that was 4 months ago.....nothing, zip, nada, zilch. I no longer support Memorex products.

DVD-R is the only thing I'm using. Never a problem so far.

Try burning one in a friend's computer to see if they're faulty or if your burner just died.

I should try in another drive. I doubt it died because I was burning an older batch of DVD-R (also Memorex but 8x discs) and it worked up until I put the new ones in.

One of my clients just complained about this yesterday: 16x Memorex -R discs and an NEC ND-2540A drive. I verified it myself, no go. I don't have any newer drives around to test them in, so I'm not sure if they're bad or not. This just further cements my negative reputation of Memorex media; I had serious data loss problems with lots of their CD-Rs back when 8x was fast.
