I turned on fsb spread spectrum in my BIOS because I thought it sounded cool and I was monkeying around. However then I read online can cause system instability in some cases. Oops. So I went to turn it off, and I swear it's dissapeared from my BIOS! It's like the BIOS changed or something and menu items are missing.

How can I turn off fsb spread spectrum?

Also, what motherboard is this? I would be happy to learn but damned if I can figure out who the motherboard vendor is.

Hi mindlube and Welcome to the Forums!

Disappearing options in BIOS? Sounds too weird. I would bet its still there and that you are just missing it.. Check your mobo manual. Oops, I bet it didn't come with one.

If it was originally set to "off", just go into BIOS and select "default settings" on the main page and it should revert back (as well as other changes you made too).

Might try running Everest Home Edition, a free proggie for d/l, it will give you detailed system info. Get it HERE

BTW, Unless you're OCing, I don't forsee that having the spread spectrum enabled will cause you any problems

Thanks Fern, for the suggestion and I'll check out Everest Home Ed. No system instability so far so I might just leave it as is too.

It can cause instability if you are Overclocking. If not go ahead and max it out, all it does is try to reduce EMI (Electromagnetic Interference).

Like the phreek said, unless you are really pushing your system, leave it on. I have had no problems running it up to a fsb of 220 before I can say that it "might" have something to do with the instability.
