FSB newb question

I just built my first system and my 1ghz tbird runs at 750. What should the fsb/multiplier be at? And maybe you could explain the equation.
 
What motherboard do you have? Make sure you're looking for a jumper on the motherboard that changes the default fsb setting to 133. Don't just change it in the bios. Good luck!
 
OK wildwarren, it's easy arithmetic. You have a 1GHz, 1000MHz, T'bird. With a 100MHz FSB, that's x10. With a 133MHz FSB, that's x7.5. They get shipped with the multiplier preset (usually locked). Looks like you got one that's meant to run on a 133MHz FSB, i.e. has an x7.5 multiplier, and you're running it on a 100FSB, which is why you got 750MHz. So like the guys said, find the switch to turn it over to 133MHz FSB. The equation's easy: CPU speed = FSB * multiplier.

If you fancy overclocking, maybe you can switch it up to a 140MHz FSB, then you'd get your CPU going at 1050MHz. You may be able to overclock by increasing the multiplier too, but then you'd need to "unlock" your CPU, but that's probably a bit much grief for your first build!
