FSAA Changed in 12.41 drivers?

Hello,

I just installed the WHQL 12.41 drivers from nVidia.com last night. I noticed a few annoying changes, first, Coolbits no longer works. The second and even more annoying for me is how they changed the FSAA options. Now, for OpenGL, there is just 'Off, 2X, 4X'. I had been using that little GeforceFSAAset taskbar utility with the 4x LOD Bias option which worked great for Half-Life but now I am forced to use wither 2X (still too many jagged edges, but FPS never drops) or 4X (looks great but FPS drops to 50).

Anyone know if there is any way to get the old options back with the new drivers? Also are there any good stable 12.xx non-WHQL drivers out, so I can use coolbits? Thanks.

Hmm time to go hunt down some beta drivers in the 12.xx range and see how they work. Argh why did they disable coolbits? They should just leave all the "advanced features" hidden by coolbits (overclocking, more FSAA options) and just let it default to dumb mode.

sorry, here's the fix I used, courtesy of Hard OCP:

There is a way to bypass the incompatibilities that the latest Detonator series drivers have with the Cool Bits registry hack. After installing drivers that do not allow video card over clocking by the Cool Bits hack.
1. Make sure the Display Properties window is CLOSED.
2. Insert the nVCpl.dll from an older set of detonator drivers ( I use the 6.49's) into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, and click YES when asked to over write the current file.
3. Use the Cool Bits hack like normal, reboot, click Enable Clock Frequency Adjustments in Hardware Options, reboot again.
4. Tweak to your heart's content.
5. Lather rinse and repeat.

What this trick does is replaces the control panel extension of the nVidia drivers that doesn't have the Hardware options tab with an extension that does.

This worked fine for me 🙂
