Sounds to me as you dont understand what PS 3.0 actually does. It doesnt make it look any better, like going from PS 1.1 to PS 2.0 does.

I do know, read my other posts on this matter.

Shrouded isles was out long before there were any PS2.0 cards, its a generic effect for GF3/R8500 and higher cards. DX8.1/PS1.1.

NV lead people to believe PS 3.0 is the next big thing, when it isnt even the next little thing. Which is why its hard to trust them, they decieve all the time. Reading the article shows this.

its called marketing.....every company does it. loads of companies pickk on the smallest advantage their equipment has over the competition and they flog it to death promoting it!!!!! its all BS...all you need to know is the facts....but it was bit pointless comparing SM3 with SM1 tho

The following before-and-after images are from the CryEngine. Developer Crytek uses Shader Model 3.0 techniques (vs. 1.x shaders) to add more depth and realism to the scenes. Notice the more realistic look and feel when SM 3.0 is applied to the bricks and stones that make up the staircase. In the scene featuring the Buddha, the full image comes to life with the use of SM 3.0, with the technique applied to multiple objects.

It has everything to do with Nvidia. It's their e-mail. The full image would also come to life with a shader model 2.0 card. It's a bit misleading. It also says SM3.0 techniques, rather than just SM3.0, which I suppose means it's not really full SM3.0 either.

They should have run some benchies to show us how SM3.0 is a lot faster than SM2.0., or even how SM3.0 is faster than SM1.1, rather than whatever it was they were trying to show us with a low quality and a high quality image.

I can't figure out the point of comparing IQ the way they attempted to.

I think this article shows that far cry runs well on ATI and Nvidia hardware. I thought those first Nvidia pictures were comparing a 5950 ultra with a 6800 ultra, is a relief to see that those 1.1 pictures were not normal Nvidia IQ. :D

That has nothing to do with Nvidia. ANd besides PS3.0 is a big thing. It drastically reduces the load on the GPU. It may not look better but it is a lot faster and fine tuned. It is a big thing dude.

And you say this without even seeing a bit of 3.0 code compared to 2.0, or any speed comparisons, simply stunning

Yep... I think judgement should be reserved for when DX9.0c and titles that fully utilize PS3.0 are available.

There are benches with 3.0 comparing 2.0. 2.0 has no visual improvements so it is definately safe to say that it lies in speed and performance.

We call those assumptions. Less code does not automatically mean less work
