I just stuck my foot into the FS/FT forums for the first time, found something I wanted, PMed the guy on the 26th indicating that I wanted to buy it, just needed to know how to pay (me has no paypal account) Anyways, we decided on a money order, and on Sunday he gives me his address. I didn't get out on Monday to get it, but today I did get it and sent him a PM saying hey, you'll get the money in a few days, here's my address. Anyways, the guy then informs me that because of a "lack of communication" and a need for money, he already has sold it to someone else. In the future, should I always make sure to reply within a day, or is this just an unfortunate case and most people will let a day go by without hearing something?

well... its a good idea to always keep in touch with the other party. but it is kinda messed up he sold it to someone else after he agreed to sell to u. if he was really in an urgent need for money, shouldn't he have expressed that earlier?

He is in the wrong.
Once the two of you agreed on payment by MO and he gave you the address to mail the MO, the deal was closed. Product, price, terms, and methods of payment and shipping had been arranged, the deal was over except for the details of completing the shipping. While it is nice, no communication from that point is necessary until he received your MO and then shipped your product (although I usually like to give people tracking #'s and stay in touch, but a single day without a PM at that point is no big deal as items are supposed to be in transit at that point and that takes time).
Can I assume that you sent an MO to this person and now he is telling you that he has sold the item to someone else? And your MO to him is in the mail already? If so, this other trader is in the total wrong. Please PM me his name so that I never trade with him. In addition, make sure that he refunds you your money back. I'm afraid you may have been trolled. :( :|

edit: perhaps I am confused. I'm assuming that there were a couple of PM's exchanged back and forth arranging for the MO and then the address and that the deal was nailed down?

It would be polite to always reply within 24 hours, since otherwise the seller will start wondering if you've changed your mind and not bothered to say so.

Some rude buyers treat "yes I'll take it" as "yes I'll take it unless I find a better deal elsewhere soon." Some sellers do this too, so both sides should reply promptly until the deal has really been closed.

Edit: but as said above, after you've already reached the point of saying "I'll pick up the money order tomorrow" the seller has no right to back out after just a day.

From what you said..

PSYWVic is basically right..

If he said "it's yours" and gave you his address, then it's yours

Can you post the PM history so we know exactly what happened?

I have a felling oyu may have been troled too

Contact this dude named Roger (he's the trollhunter in the For Sale forums)

When did you tell him you would send the MO? Once a deal is finalized, 1 day without communication is no big deal. If you were still in the process of nailing everything down, 1 day is unacceptable without prior notice of a possible problem getting back to him. He shouldn't have sold it out from under you but i get the impression that we don't have all the details.
