I stopped in at the Burbank Fry's this morning to pick up the Microtek ScanMaker 3630 ($39.99) and the HP 656c DeskJet ($49) for a buddy. I got the scanner but discovered that they had just recieved a shipment of Epson C40UX printers. They're on sale for $49.97.

In draft mode the HP averages 6ppm black text and 3ppm color; best quality is 600 x 600 dpi. The Epson does 8ppm black text and 4ppm color (draft) and has a top resolution of 1440 x 720 dpi.

Not bad for an unadvertised special.
