During the grand opening of their City of Industry location last weekend, we hit Fry's pretty hard all across the Southland. Deals aren't as extensive this time around but there are a few things worth knowing about:

SoyoTek mobo w/on-board video (8MB shared) & 10/100Mbps NIC
Mini-Mid Tower w/300WATT power supply

Mobo/CPU Combo?s
Athlon XP 1900+ OEM CPU w/EpoX 8KHA+ Mobo = $239
P4 1.8GHz OEM CPU w/Soyo SY-P4S Dragon Ultra Mobo = $269

Norcent 16x DVD-ROM = $47.99
EPO 56x CD-ROM = $17.99 after $20 MIR (Note: based on my experience, EPO drives have an extremely high failure rate.)

Misc.
Samsung ML-1450 Printer = $279 after $20 MIR
4-Port USB Hub = $1.99 after $5 MIR
CF Memory Card Reader = $9.99 after $10 MIR

bargainshopper: Thanks for catching my error. I amended my post.

tung: I agree. I'm building a couple of systems this weekend and, for me at least, that barebones is a good way to go.

Any one knows Bay area. Especially deal for Seagate 80GB, I bought last week for $99 after rebate, now it looks only $88 in L.A. Thanx.

Any thoughts on that DDR RAM? I'm building myself a computer and I really need some memory. $59.99 for 256mb would be really nice 🙂

P4 1.8GHz OEM CPU w/Soyo SY-P4S Dragon Ultra Mobo = $269

Is that the Northwood? As in 1.8A?

The DDR ram looks good. However, it may be generic🙁

Um, you might wanna look at outpost.com for the 1ghz duron deal for 189... you can get an athlon xp1700 system from there for only $199 plus shipping. The epox mobo is a little better, but I'd rather take the soyo mobo and ahtlon 1.47ghz for the $.
Outpost

Seagate 60GB Barracuda IV, 7200RPM, OEM = $84 after $25 MIR

Any details on the rebate for this? I could use a couple, but is it one per household?

The 24x drive would be something boxed by Ikebana, whoever this company is....
But the drive inside clearly says LG on it, and all the manuals and software are provided by LG. No mention of the no-name retailer...

Reviews online show this drive is rather robust and reliable, beats out the lite-on 24x10x40x in many tests. So far on my end, no problem...

Athlon XP 1900+ OEM CPU w/EpoX 8KHA+ Mobo = $239
P4 1.8GHz OEM CPU w/Soyo SY-P4S Dragon Ultra Mobo = $269

Hmmm, Frys in Portland, Oregon state...

ECS K7S5A for the XP 1.9+ 239.00
FIC VC11 for in 1.8 intel... 229.00

What is the better deal... What is fater? Intel or AMD?

I think Calafornia has better deal over the dragon for 40 bucks more.

How is the FIC VC11? Is that a good board any one got this?

Thanks for your input!

Thanks ...

How does this drive work with SD 2.51

Can it read and write SD 2.51

I want to know if that P4 1.8 is the "A" version too, with the 512k cache. When the Soyo P4S and 1.6 was $229 last week. I asked them and it was the 256k cache version. So probably they don't bundle Northwoods with these combos.

But that Seagate Barracuda IV @ $84 looks good!

i just came back from sunnyvale fry's
they have IOGear 4 port unpowered usb hub (optional power adapter available) for free**
total cost for me is $9 + $0.74 (tax) + $0.34 (stamp) - $9 (MIR) == $1.08

the sku is 3138440, and the IOGear model number is GUHX104

not sure how good the hub is, but it has usb cable in the package, so it should be good enough for that price (fry's rebate usually come thru for me)

when i got out there are several available on top shelf (behind the que cdr) -- grab one while it last (MIR limit one per household). rebate ends march 5, must be postmarked by march 11, 2002
