Remember you can now go to the Orange Co. Register online retail ads website to view Fry's SoCal ads.

Thanks for the post, though -- I need a USB card to put in the g/f's machine. However, the thought of lining up at Frys just for that horrifies me! I'd almost rather build her a new system that has a USB-equipped mobo.

Edit: Oops -- they don't have Friday's ad up there yet!

Outpost has a Maxtor 30 gig 7200rpm 2 meg buffer HD listed here for only $70. Don't know if it's in the B&M but looks like a good deal. Sorry if this was posted elsewhere.

> BTC 56x CD-ROM = $27.99 (limit 1/customer)

That drive is really cheap. Just what I needed.
Does anyone know a cheaper drive somewhere, before I drive out to Fry's this weekend?

yodayoda: I get a couple of those BTCdrives every time they come on sale to use in systems I build. They're a great value and will read whatever you throw at them.

Is SoyoTek SY-P4S mobo any good? Compare to the 845D chipset? and Via board? Otherwise its a decent price for P4 user

BTC is cheap, and not the greatest cdrom, but to suggest a mitsumi in its place? Id swear that mitsumis have a time clock in them that tells them to die at 3 years of age. Ive had at least 7 die at my company all around this lifespan. Amazing.

Smackattack: You're right. BTC drives are definitely not top shelf. I've used a lot of them though and I've not had any negative experiences with them That's is a sharp contrast to EPO drives, which I won't use, period. You pointed out your own bad experiences with Mitsumi drives. And remember how bad Memorex drives were? The point is, you can do far worse -- for more money -- than BTC.

Any member opinion and or known reviews on this SoyoTek board? I'd prefer a retail XP or Intel P4 with motherboard over Fry's OEM versions. The $250 is actually above my price target and I've been thinking maybe Fry's will have a great retail XP / motherboard combo next week for about $150 - $175. Often it's an OEM or a CPU bundled with a mediocre board. Well, if not the SoyoTek this week, I'll just get another paper next Friday...

how are those ECS mobos.. are they worth going for. I know Marc ( a guy I met from this board) bought one but somehow for him we coudltn get it to boot (either the proc, or the mobo or both were bad).

I need a cheap upgrade.. check GH for my post on that.
