I'm gonna go steal the Sac Fry's ad from my mom (she works in the building right next to me) and I'll tell ya if there's anything interesting in it.

Is this "SoCal" Fry's ad from Los Angeles or San Diego?

"SoCal" isn't all 1 market in Fry's view - San Diego doesn't honor LA prices, and LA doesn't honor SD prices.

Please clarify, because if if it's SD, I'm there!

Thanks,
-Dave

cstring - the iwill might be better than the ecs, you should check for reviews somewhere. and the XP 1700 (1.47GHz) is not the same as the AMD (thunderbird) 1.4GHz. XP is the new stuff, thunderbird the previous stuff.

btw, OEM price for XP1700+ is only a little more than thunderbird 1.4GHz at newegg ($127 vs. $113), fwiw.

DAMMIT!! I bought an ECS K7S5A MB + XP1600 (Retail) from http://www.newegg.com/ just last week for about $190.

Oh well, at least it's home and humming along already.

Anyone know if the XP1700 that comes with the MB is a Retail or OEM?

Sheesh! Austin has the ECS/XP1700 for $189 and they don't EVEN have the Iwill combo on sale! It always cracks me up how they can charge different prices and have different specials at a "chain" store. Oh well, maybe next week :)

From now on when I do this Friday morning posting I'll specify that it is for Fry's in the Los Angeles area.

They aren't a chain store. They are privately owned (by some dudes named Fry IIRC), and now running about 12 stores nationally (that number's probably low, but who's counting anymore).

Would it make sense if they had uniform prices? Sure. Is it non-sensical that they don't? Not at all.. they price wherever they feel is most profitable.
