I have to laugh at the "limit one" on the modem. They had the same deal last week and I picked one up on the last day of the ad. They had OVER 400 left. Since you can only get the rebate on one and $25 is not earthshattering for a Winmodem, I bet you could twist their arm and walk out with a few hundred if you wanted 😉

Sleeper5555,
It seems that the combo listed for $89 a couple of days ago ended on 1/3 and it may have been only for the N.Cal area. I went looking for that deal at the San Diego Frys only to find that it was priced at $129 on the night of 1/3. Today, 1/4, I revisted Frys and the S.Cal ad was out with the combo listed at $99 now. It is still the same ECS motherboard and OEM Duron, but the price seems to be higher for us S.Cal people.

I called up a friend up in the N.Cal area. He drove over to the Palo Alto Frys and attempted to pick up the combo for me so I can save $10. The Frys' employee told him that the deal for the motherboard and CPU ended on 1/3 and it was no longer available at $89 nor $99.

So I guess Frys ads are region specific?

Yes, Fry's is region specific. That combo is available in TX stores for $119 - although I can't remember if it is retail or OEM and I don't have the paper... If it is retail, $20 premium for AMD fan is a lot!

dang, how does Fry's even make money with those prices. They really do need to expand to bigger markets so they can do even better in sales

Can someone comment on the ECS K7S5A mobo w/Duron 1GHz CPU = $99
The good, the bad, and the ugly? I'm looking for a new mobo/processor
combo. Should I just pop out more and get a mobo with processor
combo at a higher rate?

I got the ECS Mobo + Athlon XP 1700 combo for $169 a couple of weeks ago and have been very happy with it. You might consider waiting until that rolls around again. Of course, you could always buy the Duron combo now and upgrade to an XP chip later when the prices drop...

my friend marc had got on to the ECS deal. turns out we had a bad proc (a dead proc) and a dead mobo.

not a very good way to start off. The mobo wouldnt beep even if everything was taken off.. we returned both.. he is waiting for another deal to come up before putting in his store credit.

What is Fry's price on the ECS mobo? Couldn't I buy the combo and return the mobo for their price? I really only need the chip...don;t suppose anyone knows what their selling the chips for?
