Fry's price matching "internet price" now

^^ Thats how when you show up to the store they reject your claims, and your basically out of luck. Get it? Its just another scam. That disclaimer gives Frys a non binding out. Those of us who have shopped at Frys alot know all their crap. Bate and switch techniques, advertising items that they dont have in stock, also the new "price to low to show" scam they run in their ads.

The part about verifying if the online retailer is an authorized reseller is a much bigger out.

Now the price "too low to show" is not a legimate critique, many vendors say you can't advertise a price that is a certain percentage amount under msrp, if you do so you can't be an authorized reseller for the product. This is also why Frys sometimes advertise "major brand" for things such as tvs and harddrives.

What about matching to an online retailer that no sales tax is required upfront on?

For example, online retailer has TV for sale for $1,000 and they don't charge sales tax or shipping.

Fry's in CA has the same TV for say, $1,300, plus sales tax of 10%. Will they match the price to $1,000 inclusive of the sales tax they have to charge? Or do they match it to $1,000 plus sales tax of 10%?

I would imagine they would match the price of the product before the sales tax. The sales tax, in essence, is a separate transaction. Fry's happens to charge at the time of purchase, in the case of the online retailer not collecting sales tax, you are expected to pay it at tax time.

Still not sure why I would not shop at Newegg or Amazon (with Prime) even if I did have a Fry's locally. This process sounds like a hassle.

It wasn't a hassle at all as I mentioned earlier. Just understand what their policy is before going in there expecting an amazing deal.

I bought a Seagate GoFlex Home because I needed it that day. Two weeks later, MC had it for less. I couldn't find my receipt but went to Frys anyway. They looked up my credit card and found my receipt and then I showed them the ad. I previously checked and the closest MC store was out of stock. The Frys guy called not the closest MC, but both--seemed he was trying to accommodate me. He then went online at MC to check price. It was the same. However, because MC online charges about $10 shipping, he reduced my refund by the shipping amount--it was still a savings of about $35.

There could be a lot of potential in this, since Fry's often has rebates when other stores just sell it at the price minus rebate already. Their conditions say they won't match when a competitor has a rebate (obviously), but if Fry's is the one offering a rebate, the clerks might not even know about it and might not take it into consideration.

For example, I'm in the market for a USB flash drive. Amazon has this Patriot Xporter 16 GB for $29.99. Fry's price is $44.99 with a $15 rebate. There are no conditions on the rebate that exclude it when you PM or get it on sale, so potentially, I could PM at Fry's to get it for $29.99, then get the $15 rebate also.

I have to go to Fry's tonight anyways, so I think I'll try. Worst case is they don't PM and I just order it from Amazon instead. Worst case if they do PM is that the rebate gets denied and I just get it for the Amazon price, so no loss there. Best case, I get it for half price.

Julio - update us on how that turns out. I've got a feeling they'll include their own rebate in the PM but if they don't...oh sweet, sweet deals...

Unless you are buying items with free shipping, newegg charges you shipping per item. Tax notwithstanding for those of us who live in CA, we can save some shipping charges by picking merchandise up in person. Instant gratification is good too.

It would be nice if they actually had any good pc parts in stock. All I could seem to find for gpu's was 5770's, gtx 260's, etc.. Ssd's in stock was some kingstons and other old stuff with some jacked up controllers. No thanks. Yeah they do have some tards too.

Success! They pricematched, no questions asked. Rebates don't even show up in their computers; all the clerks see are the original prices. Also, the receipt doesn't say anything about a pricematch, so there should be no problem getting the rebate. Looks like we can find some great deals in the future by doing this.

One note about the experience: If the pricematch is 30% off or more, than they have to get permission from a bunch of people in order to do the PM. None of them ever questioned anything, but it made the pricematch take a bit of time.

My local City of Industry Fry's has good deals IF they have the item in stock as other people have mentioned. It's not hard to price match, but good luck fidning anything in stock to price match anyway - especially advertised specials.

By the way, the "bait and switch" thing couldn't be more true in my experience. You go in for a Mobo and CPU advertised combo and they always are out of stock of one or the other and then suggest a really crappy full price alternative.

Good call. People (myself included) have been doing this at Staples for years. Now we can just do it with better stuff, lol.

Nice! I know here in the Atlanta area, Microcenter has been killing them! Especially since they stopped offering those combo deals the last few years. Their higher prices and refusal to price match pretty much ruled them out as an option for me

I've been PM'ing tiger direct, amazon, and buy.com at Fry's for many years. I'm not sure if it was their official policy or just CS reps that didn't know better.

MC will now pricematch Tigerdirect in Atlanta, since TD just opened up a new store up hamilton mill.

thats exactly what they do. when they were out of the c2d 8400 combos they would try to sell you a pentium for full price. what crooks, i cant believe anyone would support them

Tried this yesterday at one of the Houston Fry's. They hadn't a clue how to go about it. After more than 30 minutes I just gave up. The supervisor went somewhere to "check" and never came back. I buy a lot of stuff at Fry's due to weekend specials but if anything is out of the ordinary (pick it off shelf, make sure price is on tag or have ad in hand, go to checkout) you will get the deer in headlights or I will go check teatment.

I do know for a Fact Microcenter is at total war with Fry's and NewEgg in my Area - Southern California...

I bought my AMD Phenom II x 4 Deneb 3.4GHz at Fry's for $134... a few days later I was at a Microcenter looking at Power Supplies for my build and some guy came in with a Fry's Ad for the very same AMD processor because a Microcenter Rep told him over the phone they had some in stock and would price match it for $134 (They had it listed for $169.99 at the time)... but they were out of stock and gave him a AMD Phenom II x 6 Thenub 1055 instead for $134!!😵 This was back in October 2010...

Yah... I go to that Fry's too... They hate me because I have returned so many routers and Video Cards it is not even funny - I return them because I found better deals on NewEgg or Amazon... I also found out that if they do price match they normally would give you an open box/returned item...

Uh, no. Where are you even getting that from? As Boozie said, simply go grab a new one and take it to 'em. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I did have to go to a sales rep out on the floor and have them look it up, verify and print me out an invoice and then take it to checkout.

Thanks for making it more expensive on the rest of us, you self-centered piece of trash. And then you come here and brag as if we should look up to you because you return all these items?

How about doing a little research first, and saving Fry's money, your time, and everyone else's money as well?
