Good price for straight up but me personally I wouldn't get one since there's so much better stuff coming out soon for ~$500.

Worth a slight look now, but it may drop further at their new stuff hits the market. The original Galaxy Tab isn't exactly a piece of junk, just needs to be priced right.

The Galaxy Tab always was one of the better tablets out, and took some degree of market share from the 1st iPad. The recent re-release of the Tab is needed, now there is more serious competition in the tablet market now.

You mean the Playbook?

7" options (soon):
Galaxy Tab wifi -- $350, 13.4oz, 1ghz Hummingbird
Streak 7 -- $450, 15.9oz, 800mhz Tegra2, TN, HSPA+
Flyer -- $500?, 14.8oz, 1.5ghz Snapdragon, pen
Playbook -- $500, 15oz, 1ghz unknown dual-core, Android emulator

The Streak is faster but also heavier and has a crappy screen. The Flyer is faster but still single-core and also heavier. And we'll see about the Playbook.

Could also add the new Samsung Tabs, 8.9 and 10.1, to your list too. At least, the 8.9 Wifi is under 500.

Yeah, there's lots of cool stuff coming >7", but I figure the 9-10" range is two-handed, and not the same category.

I see people in the subway with iPads and they just seem to take over the entire lap space. The 7" e-reader size is just a different beast.

And, massive warning!

SoC for the WiFi version is TI OMAP3 with SGX 530, *not* the Hummingbird with SGX 540. That's a seriously gimped GPU.

Oh wow, that is the same GPU my Nook Color has, as well as any Droid X. That is a pretty huge deal, as it is half as powerful as the 540.

Yeah, it's the same downgrade Samsung made for the week-old i9003. Makes little sense for techie consumers, but I guess they figure regular home users won't notice as long as it plays their videos out of the box (and it still should).

Two step forward and one step back. WiFi Galaxy Tab is crossed off my list. If I wanted Color Nook internal I would buy one. Deceptive and bait and switch IMO.

The 7" Dell Streak is 800x480, and has a pitiful battery life.

The first-gen Galaxy Tab, for $50 above the WiFi-only version, is still the best buy at this price point.

Anyone looking to save money and having $300 as an absolute ceiling would be better off with the Nook Color.

On a personal note, I find it strange that the Viewsonic Viewpad 7 - which needs a hack that allows rotating the screen, to fix the poor viewing angles - is widely available for $299 here in Canada, but is still being sold in the U.S. at $399.
