Looks like Outpost has a 3.2GHz P4/mobo combo for $220 (could be the same though $20 more) and I'm pretty sure the 200GB Seagate for $60 is available as well.

Yes, I saw that. Those are both great deals. I've been looking to upgrade my cpu, I was really wanting a P4 3.4ghz, but it's a bit out of my price range. This 3.2Ghz deal is tempting, as I'd probably try to sell the MSI board for $30 or so.

Why is there such negative attitude torwards the Prescott cpu's? I've read that the high temps are over-hyped. I'm not OC'ing, so I'm not really concerned about over-heating.

Is there something else I'm missing about the Prescotts?

in the OC Register ad the deals seem to be the same...the Athlon64 deal in So Cal is with a MSI K8T and it's $270 as well

also the 17" Flat Panel model 170B $320 - 70 = $250 is that a ViewSonic?

The deal with people not liking prescott chips is that for most things it runs slower than the same Mhz northwood. The prescott has a 1 meg cache and more instruction sets so for things like being a SQL server and mepg4 encoding it runs faster than northwood but not so for games and day to day usage. Also seti runs faster on a northwood that is what matters to me.

The 512MB PQI Memory I bought had Mosel Vitalic chips on it, which in the past have always been rated very good. I actually don't have a computer to put this in yet, so I can't post my tests with it, but for $60 after rebate, it's probably a pretty good deal.

Someone else who has bought this, let us know what the SPD says and if your able to push the chip timings at all.

Peace

FYI you can view the Fort Worth Star Telegram ad online here.

The motherboard in the Athlon 64 combo is the MSI K8T Neo-FSR.

I got in on the 2.8 Prescott/mobo deal earlier this week.

It runs very hot. The Intel fan is loud and makes a really annoying tone. I could only stand about 20 minutes of it before I put my Northwood back in. Performance was fine.

I also baough a 2.8 prescott w/ mobo last week. It was an Abit AS8 mobo. The chip was oem and so I got a Gigabyte 3D cooler. It runs alittle hot, 50 degrees while idle and over clocked to 3.2. I'm fine with that. Not any louder than my old Athlon with a panaflow fan mounted on HS.

WHOA!

The online version of the ad in the Ft. Worth Star Telegram is different than the ad in today's Dallas Morning News!

Most of the items are the same, but there are differences in the ads.

Damn, shopping at Fry's just got a whole lot more complex.
