PMing after rebate prices is YMMV and changes over time. I used to be able to get 2/3 local CCs to PM AR but they are getting stickier. I have had BB do it just once at managers discretion.
Recently, CompUSA has been "matching" the Fry's ad on this drive. The manager will charge you $250 on the drive and give you back a rebate/gift card for $100. I have done this 3 times in 2 weeks at 2 local CompUSA stores. This is new and not all CSRs know how to do it. They have given me 2 types of cards.
1. Preferred Customer Rebate card - expires after 60 days.
2. Gift card. - no expiry
The gift card costs more since they ring up the drive at $249 and charge tax on $249.
The Rebate Card saves tax on $100 since they ring up the drive for $149 and gift card for $100.
Both cards work like an instant store credit.
I used to be able to get Fry's to PM the CC or BB receipts and still collect the rebates.
(16 WD drives in 18 months ranging from 80G to 180G)
Getting Frys to match the compusa "rebate card" deal has been like pulling teeth.
1 manager matched it down to $149 after 1 hour.
2 managers delayed me for 1 hours twice and said NO.
1 manager compromised and offered to split the difference on 2 drives and refund $100 (not $200)
he said I could still send in for the rebates and I would be ahead of CompUsa.
All told: I bought 3 WD250G drives from Fry's. 2 @ $199 and 1 @ $149
I bought 3 WD250G drives from CompUSA and got 3 gift cards.
I think I need to return some of the drives
BTW: 2 Fry's managers told me they would PM AR on hard drives if Fry's did not offer the rebate.
