Sorry if this is a repost, I did a search and didn't find anything.

Fry's Bay Area today has the MSI K7T266 Pro 2A motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 1700+ RETAIL BOX CPU for $99

I don't know much about the motherboard other than it has VIA KT266a, 2-channel AC-97 Audio, USB 1.1.

Also:

P4-2.4Ghz Boxed/MSI645e $249.99, WD 180GB 7200 $229.99 AR, 512MB PC133 $34.99, 256MB PC2700 $59.99, XP1700+Box/MSI K7T266 Pro2A $99.99, Celeron 2Ghz Bare/Shuttle MV42N $149.99.

Man, if there were a Fry's in Ohio I would be all over this.

You guys have to stop posting these Fry's deals. 😉 Well I off to check the prices on outpost.

I'm thinking of stopping by after work today to pick on up. Any suggestions for ram for this particular board?

Same here. Fry's sounds sweet enough that they should expand to the Midwest.

It would be nice to have some in Minnesota.

The Twin Cities are about an hour from here and I'd drive there to visit a Fry's.

😉

Question for anyone who has bought this deal, what did Fry's charge for each item in the receipt (in case I want to return part of it)?

Thanks.

could we get this and return the motherboard only? on my receipt it shows the price of the combo, and then shows the cpu and motherboard with their own price.

cpu 51.82
motherboard 48.17

the k7t266 is just too old for me

It may depend on your CSR. The one's I've gone to at Sunnyvale Fry's won't let me.

I bought the board today and am running it at 145MHz FSB (1595MHz or almost like a 1900+) and am testing stability with Prime95. Looks good so far, and I think I'm going to try it at 150MHz FSB which will make it almost like a 2000+. I'd definitely be happy with that.

I would have wanted the board to have on-board cmedia 6-channel sound, but for $99, I'm not complaining. I also bought the 256MB PC2700 advertised and that's what I'm using in the system right now. It has Nanya chips, and I have no idea about the quality of it.

I'm not really sure how to overclock. I think i adjusted the fsb thingy to like 200 or something and only got around 1.5ghz

I have this board and an AMD XP2000. This is a very stable board and did not give me any problems on installation. My FSB is up to 144, which essentially makes my xp2000 around xp2200 levels. Just be careful because this board only has a 1/4 divider. Anything over 149 FSB and your PCI cards, components might becaome unstable or even fry. Just be cautious when overclocking and watch the temps. Get a decent cooler/fan and you are set to go!

Help !
I bought this combo today, but I can't figure out how to adjust the FSB.

Evidently, it's 100mhz, because my chip comes up as 1.1GHZ.

Via the manual, the only way to set the FSB to 100 or 133 is via SDRAM frequency in the bios...
but I dont see the HCLK-33 option.

Am I missing something obvious ?

I bought a piece of DDR PC2100 RAM ( 512MB ) from Central Computer to go along with this new system ( for me. )

I'm missing something obvious, I know it !!!

I bought this combo last month as a second machine and it is very stable and fast.
Curious Mike. Just go to the Frequency Settings( in the bios the top right hand column) and set your FSB to 133. You can also set it to performance default and it will set your Memory timings per SPD and FSB to 133.
The board has a lot of tweaks and can easily increase the VCore for a higher overclock with Pamona clips. Remember to Set your Hard drives and CDs to 32 bit capability in the first set up panel or they will default to 16 bit. For 99 buck this board is well worth it; stable and overclocks very easily.

RD,
Thanks for the heads up; for some reason, I was stuck looking in the wrong setting.

For the fun of it, I set the FSB to 150, and played Unreal Tournament 2003 demo online for about 15 minutes; it ran great.

Thanks for the hint about the 16/32 disk capability. ( 16 bit; what a strange default ! )

I'm just checking, but would anybody be interested in just the Motherboard?

It sounds like several of us (me included) just need the CPU. I don't know how much these motherboards go for new (in one of the replies above, somebody mentioned $75), but I'm assuming that you can not just buy a CPU by itself for $51.82 or the new motherboard by itself for $48.17.

Let me know if anybody out there (who might not have access to Fry's) happens to want the motherboard. I'm willing to cover the cost of tax. You would just need to pay for $48 + Shipping.

I'm hoping this is a win/win offer for somebody. PM if interested.

Hey guys,

Does any one know if this mobo will use PC133 memory or is it only for the newer 184 pin DDR stuff.

Would make a great 2nd system for all the spare parts I have.

Dan

No this board only used DDR; Fry's often has the K75A with a Combo deal and it will handle SDR and DDR. The K75SA is a very stable board and actually quite fast. My daughters is using one right now and it is a very capable performer.
