they might be locked.. i don't think that is a hot deal at all because they basically just giving you that "ECS" mobo for free, and you pay for the full price for the processor with possible locked mutiplier

you should risk it since you can return it if its locked with full refund include tax

go to newegg, maybe you might have chance there to get a unlocked barton 2500
friend of mine got one yesterday

I was reading some of the reviews for that processor and the majority of the most recent ones have people saying they are getting locked ones @ newegg too. Your friend may have gotten one of the few unlocked ones they have left.

locked at a 11X multiplier is not a real big deal is it???

just raise the FSb to 200 and you got a Xp3200+, and so on, unlocked would be nice, but not that big a deal is it???

I feel like moving to CA to get Fry's deals.

Wish they had a better online system. Is there any hope to get in on Fry's deals for someone not on the west coast?

I think I've read in some other Fry's thread, some were able to contact stores for these deals, but the shipping probably kills it.

I believe the shipping is only like $15. Considering the sales tax in CA is what 9%, and the $15 shipping amounts to basically 15%, that's not going to "kill it" for a lot of us.

The trouble is that most Frys won't sell advertised deals out of state with shipping etc. They claim its a loss-leader to entice local customers into their store to buy more items. I tried on last weeks $65 combo and was shot down.

Did anybody get the current Fry's deal K7VTA3 v.8 and XP2200+ that is advertised in the paper today? I just wonder if they are giving out the Thornton core again? When I got the XP2000+ deal last Wednesday from the Fry's Manhatten Beach store it was a Thornton CPU.

please share your info.

thanks

YES, the XP 2200+ I got in the combo today from the City of Industry store was a thorton, week 34, so unlocked! (Anything before week 39 is thought to be unlocked.)

Unlocked really doesn't matter that much either, because any good nForce 2 Ultra board should automatically unlock your processor I thought....

PM me if otherwise guys!

Just a note to some folks.. Fry's ads change DAILY as do the combo deals. Some of the combos listed on a certain day are good for only a day or two and are only listed on one days ad. Always check the ad bottom for the valid dates, you may get lucky. The FIC/2400 deal was for today. I did the 2500/ECS deal on friday which was listed as the last day. Don't worry, the deal will show again - maybe this week.

Didn't realize that they cycle the ads that quickly :Q I already have a chip in the mail but the thought of being able to resale the ECS mobo for $20-30 was tempting :) Or even hand it down to my dad. Thanks for the info.
