The add is for the renton store. Most likely others as well.

Not screaming hot but good deals

Intel E8400 & ECS G31T-M mobo $149.00
Intel E7300 & ECS GF7100PVT-M $109.00
Intel E2200 &ECS GF7100PVT-M $79.99

4GB DDR2 PC6400 Patriot Viper $49.99 - $20 rebate =$29.99

Typical $4.99 hd-dvd's and $11.99 blu-ray's

I wonder why they didn't drop the price further. I bought 8400/G31 combo for $159 months ago. I would have expected it to drop more than $10.

Well, that sucks. The nearest store from my location is 6+ hours away.

My brother needs a cheap CPU+MB combo and the E7300 would work out nicely. Unfortunately, the savings aren't worth the drive. 😉

I'm going to be making my way to Fry's later today. If anyone needs anything, let me know. I can only grab a few combos since they are limited to 1 per household but none the less, I'll be able to just go up to different reps. The total to you will be the actual total (after tax) plus shipping.

called the Anaheim, CA store and they said the E8400 combo came with an OEM cpu

I'll wait for a "great" deal...

That's a stand up thing to do.......

I live in MN so I have a long way to go; but I do have a brother just outside of Austin TX that I can have buy me stuff when it is a good deal. And they are starting to have some decent deals on MB combos so I will have to start looking.

Have their combos ever not come with OEM cpus??? I don't think so.

Does anyone know if Fry's restocks the combos on a daily basis? I always miss out on the first night of the deal because it's "out of stock"

Don't need this but just wanted to say that's a real nice thing to do.

Not on a "daily" basis. But they do restock their products frequently. For example, if they run out of an item on Friday or Saturday, they might get some more in stock on Monday evening or Tuesday morning. (Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.) If you're interested in a particular item, it's worth a call. (You should always call ahead.)

You probably don't pay much attention to Fry's ads, I do. My E7200/ECS combo came with a retail cpu. Many of them do.

I got a retail Q8200 with a G31T-M for $189, which i thought was a good deal. Atleast now i have a super small Intel HSF (less than 1" high) that has a copper block on it.

AC7 is my cooler though.

Obviously not someone familiar with Fry's.

Yes, there are plenty of times Fry's pulls funny business & sells OEM cpus as part of a bundle. More often than not, though, a retail CPU is bundled with M/B. Now, with this being Fry's sometimes the CPU is 'open box' (meaning they're selling you a used CPU as new). That's a different discussion, though ...

A couple weeks ago I picked up the E8500 version of this combo with a retail CPU (i.e. in box) for $135. I don't truly NEED it but can't bring myself to return it when I can get $35 for the M/B, making the CPU $100. This thing overclocks to 4 GHz fairly easily in the right setup.

During the Intel road show event (not publicized here in Las Vegas but the combo codes worked), I picked up two E7200 combos (w/G33T-M2 M/B) for $59.99, full retail CPU. At the same event, I picked up my new CPU - a Q9550 - bundled with the same M/B for $229.99. The Q9550 has been overclocked from 2.8 GHz to 3.6 GHz in my Abit IP35-E & it's barely breaking a sweat. 4 GHz Quad core, here we come!

they have switched to oem cpus more as of late i've noticed. they usually have some sort of heatsink for under $10 available tho.

Oh I guess I've been cheated twice then cus I've bought two combo deals and the cpu I'm using now is one of those OEM combo deal processors.

Over the years I got an AXP2000+, an e6300, and an e8500 in combo deals from Fry's. Only the e8500 was a retail boxed CPU. Was nice not having to buy a HSF for it. I've never had a CPU die on me, as I don't overclock, so saving $15 on the heatsink is probably more of a tangible benefit to me than the warranty.

Probably not 'cheated', you just happened to get one of the deals with an OEM processor. I don't mind that so much as the idea that they've been 'opened' or 'used'. I've gotten too many defective CPUs from Fry's (either OEM or open box retail), so at this point I walk away from OEM deals. If it was a REALLY compelling deal, I might take my chances, as I have plenty of spare heat sinks at home. The CPU goes back at the first sign of trouble, though.

They *do* occasionally have bundles with OEM CPUs, but you said "Have their combos ever not come with OEM cpus??? I don't think so." That's not the case, they have plenty of bundles that don't come with OEM cpus - they also have some bundles that *do* come with OEM cpus. Doesn't mean it's a bad deal, just means you gotta be careful, cuz they've slipped me some junk in that plastic tray in the past.

Whenever I post something about Fry's here, I try to mention whether it's an OEM or Retail CPU with the bundle, as that matters a lot to some people. I've been fortunate that all of my recent deals have come with a retail box CPU, tho they've tried to slip me bad CPUs in an open box a couple times. (Meaning they sell an open box, or used, CPU as new as part of a bundle.) They claim it still has 3 year manufacturer warranty, but I'm less worried about that than whether it survives initial setup & testing. I doubt Fry's is gonna help me much if the (used) CPU fails right after the return period if I haven't had much time to test it.

At any rate, hopefully your OEM combos are working well - still plenty of good deals to be had, you just gotta be careful & always keep one eye open with Fry's.
