Fry's has the Maxtor 250GB 7200 rpm 8MB buffer HD on sale this weekend for $129.99 no rebate. Last time I bought it, I got a MaxLine Plus II drive, instead of a DiamondMax Plus 9, so I was very happy.

Linky (works only on 7/2)

Not as hot as the 160GB for $69.99 on a price/size ratio ($0.44/per GB vs $0.52/per GB), but nice for people who don't have that many free bays in your computer and want maxium storage for cheap price.

This betters the deal @ BestBuy by $30.
Maybe you can pricematch there or Staples for better price, but the ad doesn't show the manufacture's name and model.

No brand mentioned in the ad, but enter the SKU #3700356 on the outpost site shows this drive.

This is the same price as a few weeks back during Memorial Weekend, in case anyone missed out then.

Also I got an email from CompUSA saying like save $80 off selected upgrades and had a pic of a Maxtor 250GB HD, so there might be a deal if you can wait till Sunday.

Update: CompUSA also has this drive for $129.99 no rebate now! So it's good for those with no Fry's around them.

Linky

Ad says "Generic", but the model # is L01P250, which is a Maxtor.

Also, the CompUSA ones are DiamondMax Plus 9, but the Fry's ones might be MaxLine Plus II.
Difference is 1 vs 3 year warranties, and higher tolerances.

Anyways, I'm gonna run down to Fry's tomorrow and debate between the 160GB and 250GB, and pick up a few of the $9.99 PS2 games in Friday's ad (Devil May Cry 2, Dynasty Warriors 3, and Virtual Fighter 4).

Can we pricematch this drive to a competitior that has rebates? I remember people getting this drive for around $100 after PM.

How is that a deal? A MaxLine II is a 5400 RPM drive.

Damn! I had my fingers crossed that some how, some where the cheap HDD gods might smile upon me with a chance to get this drive with no more than a $100 cash outlay! Oh well, I guess I must keep dreaming.

Oops. Thanks. I didn't know that they had a MaxLine II "Plus" line. I assume that those are therefore 7200 RPM, and yet have the longer warranty that the older MaxLine II 5400 drives have too? Makes me wonder even more then, about the quality of their normal one-year warranty desktop drive line. Hmm. :|

Brings up another question - MaxLineIII / DiamondMax 10 line. Need more info on those too, guess I'll keep reading up.

Anyways, that makes this deal really hot! Three-year warranty, once common, seems to be a thing of the past nowadays.

I just ordered this drive from Staples. 199.99 - 30 coupon = 169.99 + tax.

Will call in the morning to request a PM. I tried calling Staples just now (about midnight, California time) but they said they were closed for the holiday. I hope I'll be able to get through before the Fry's ad expires on 7/6.

If it works, it will be 199.99 - 77 PM - 30 Coupon = $92.99 + tax. My backup, in case they don't accept the $30 coupon is that I have a $15 off 100 coupon as well. So, worst case, it would be abut $107.99

Half a terabyte on 2 fast 7200rpm 8mb cache drives for $260 in Delaware. Thanks for the post Sleepy!!!

edit: I may head down to staples and PM if possible... It would save me another $24 dollars or so.

I don't know which one you are referring to (Fry's or Compusa) but the one I got at CompUSA is the DiamondMax Plus

Picked up 3 of these at CompUSA in Minnetonka, MN. They had like 70 of these drives and it wasn't busy at all today. Tomorrow might be a different story...

You guys should try Staples PM to CompUSA (YMMV). Staples has it for 199.99. Add a cheap filler to your cart (I used paper clips. Then add $30 off of $200 coupon (you can search for the code here). Place your order.

Call 1-800-3STAPLE and ask to PM to CompUSA. It's not a sure thing, but your CSR will most likely do the PM without dropping the coupon.

So total is 200.24 - 30 coupon - 1.10 * (199.99 - 129.99) pricematch + (tax on 170.24).

Edit: Oops that 30 off of 200 might be a 30 off of 150, in which case you don't need to add a filler item.

I successfully PM'd the Fry's deal to Staples. They didn't take off the $30 coupon I had used. Unfortunately, I don't think he applied the 110% PM correctly, so I may have to call in a few days and have them credit the additional $7 + tax. If that works, then it will be $92.99 + tax. Not a bad deal.

went to office depot because it's by far the closest to where i live and pricematched it there... worked fine, no 110% tho... i showed the woman there a printed copy from compusa.com but somehow the price wasn't on there so she says to me "uhm, is there supposed to be a price on here?" and i just automatically replied "yeah, it should say 129.99" she says "oh, ok" and proceeded to ring me up for $129.99, no further questions asked. i guess i should have told her it was supposed to be free :p
