Fry's $149 OTD mobo combo ECS Intel 848p Chipset, 2.4gHz P4 w/ 1mb cache (Prescott)

Listed in Fry's Friday newpaper ad in SoCal, plu 3992328 but I couldn't find it at Outpost.com.

A nice case to go with it: Scorpio Black ATX 420W Mid-Tower Case with 5 fans for $59.99 in same ad.

Note: While the ad indicates 5 fans, it actually has 7 fans (2 on the power supply). This sucker should be a room air filtration system or it should take off and fly 😉

The $149 OTD combo indicates an ECS/Intel 848P chipset mobo (ECS 848p-A) and an Intel 2.4gHz P4 boxed 533fsb CPU with 1mb cache (Prescott)

My brother went to Fry's at lunch today and picked up this combo and the Scorpio case. He was looking at the 2.8gHz P4 with ECS/Via combo for $159 last week but didn't like all the "return/inspected by Fry's" mobo boxes on hand.

Yeah you can OC
I Oced my ECS 848P-A with Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott 533Mhz FSB CPU to
3.02 Ghz without raising the voltage and no problem runs good.
just need a better heatsink. I was using PC2700 memory 512MB
I believe it will go higher if my memory is PC3200

what is the voltage your chip is getting? mine shows up as 1.37v. I'm trying to find a link to show how to increase the voltage on a Prescott...

I picked up this combo yesterday for $129...

I am running the Anetec 550W P/S(2 fans) with 4 case fans and you cant even tell its running. I have to look at the power light all the time to see if its on lol

I picked up one of these combos for $129.99 plus tax about a month ago in Texas. I didn't do much testing and I didn't try to overclock it. But one of the main things I noticed is that the CPU does run hotter than average: 54-55 degrees C at idle with the retail CPU cooler. What kind of results are people getting with overclocking?

deal is on again at DFW Fry's for $129. I've had mine up to 3.00 fully stable, and 3.20 but if fails Prime95 (does run 3dmark03 complete)...

Actually, hyperthreading was offered from a 2.4 up

oops, my bad. I coulda swore it was 2.6, thanks for the correction 🙂

I picked the combo up for $119, but then end up spend another $30 for a Zalman CNPS7000A Heatsink & fan. The stock fan was way too loud with load cpu, like it's about to take off anytime soon!

I was unable to get any extra juice out of this cpu! Nada, not even when I up the FSB from 133 to 140Mhz, it will give me a blue screen almost instantly. For you guys who succesfully overclocked this cpu, any suggestions on what might have I've done wrong? All I did was changing the FSB, none of other tweaking. I'm sure it's not my memory either, I have 2 stick of memory, PC2700 & PC3200, tried with either one of them and no luck.

I've tried ECS combo's from Fry's and both times had (different) problems with the boards.

The LA/OC deal for $129.99 is a boxed P4 2.4GHz 1MB cache with MSI PT880 motherboard: link

I'm debating picking that up. It's a pretty decent motherboard. link

I picked up a set. It's an awesome combo for $130. The board has a ton of overclocking settings. It should be easily possible to run the Prescott 2.4 the combo comes with at 3GHz (166MHz QDR FSB) and maybe even faster.

hi im new to the whole ocing scene i got 1 of these deals as a gift .
how hot should the cpu normally run at and what is just to hot .
i'd be grateful for any help
