Frustrating mouse problem....

Man, I used to LOVE my MS intelliexplorer mouse but not anymore! :|. You see i've been having these weird mouse lag problems if you will. Especially in counterstrike, but even in windows, the mouse seems to stop, and 2 seconds later get back going. sometimes it stops and doesn't even come back untill I unplug it. (BTW, this is when I'm using the USB->ps2 adapter). When i tried to connect it straight to a USB port, the mouse kept on redetecting itself which also ticked me off. When the mouse "hangs" the light doesn't turn off. Got any ideas fellow gurus?
 
Are you sure it's the mouse? My Intellimouse explorer has never done that and I've had it a little over a year.
 
I'm pretty sure the USB problem (keeps hesistaing to redetect) is the mouse's fault since I have 2 explorers which do that. Im about ready to sell my mouse and get a logitech :|
