Frustrated with mobo issues

I have an intel dp965lt. Power went out and it never came back on. I thought the PS was bad, but I hooked it up to another system and it ran fine. So I tried everything to get the intel board to come back. Nothing worked. I rma'ed the board back to intel. I went and bought an asus p5q se to use while I awaited the rma. Hooked it up and it runs like a dream (all same components).

Intel sends me a new board. I take the asus out (intent on returning it) and put the intel in. Same thing.. nothing .. dead as a door nail. I get the light on the mobo and nothing else. no fans, nothing. So I unhook everything and try to get something with just mobo, ram and proc. Nothing. Just like the board I RMA'ed. Now I am convinced some other component (like maybe the ps) is causing the board to not boot.

But here is what gets me. The asus p5q se with all the same components runs just fine. No issues. No boot problems. No performance issues. Everything runs and runs well. Same case, same ps.. everything the same.

SO what the heck is going on!
thoughts?

You need some fresh eyes on your setup.

1. Totally tear down and reassemble step-by-step, slowly... double checking each step.
2. Have someone look over your Intel assembly (without leading them with commentary).
3. If the Intel fails to boot after detailed troubleshooting, RMA again.
4. If the Intel fails to boot after detailed troubleshooting, cut your losses and forget about it.
5. No matter what you do... Listen to your wife!

How do you know Intel sent you a new board and not the Same one you sent to them ? ?
Did you check the board ID or Serial # before you sent it, against what you got back ? ?
Sure sounds like they just sent back your Old Board

different serial numbers for sure.
I have double checked my assembly and unforunately I am the only one who knows this stuff so there is no one to check.
I won't RMA again. It costs me $12 to send in the mobo so I would now be out $24 for a mobo that probably at this point isn't worth much more than that.
I am just trying to figure out what is going wrong. Either one the board no longer accepts one of my components, one of my components is going bad but for some reason the asus doesn't care.
OR the actually send me another dead mobo. I find that hard to believe though that I would get two mobos exactly the same.

Drop by with the PC and I'll take a look at your setup.
I'm sure we can get it lined out.

short trip from oregon to indiana eh.

Is there any reason that one board would boot just fine with all the same comps and the other wouldnt? Is it possible my intel board draws more power than the asus board with the same comps? Am I just waiting for the system to now fail with the asus board? or did I really get two intel boards that crapped out.

ya. I just get a green light near the ram and nothing else. Not even a fan spin.

if you end up rmaing it again, use a sharpie in the corner somewhere where only you know it, and send it back. if you get it back you will know it...

My wife is rolling her eyes at me.
I have the asus running perfectly with all the same stuff.
She is wondering why I am going through this.
But again.. my fear is that there is something more wrong and I am just waiting for the asus to crap out.

power plug seems okay. Thanks for the suggestion.
The only thing I can think of now is that the intel board demands more power from a certain rail that has gone bad, while the asus doesn't need it or doesnt need as much. But that seems far fetched.

At least pay as much attention to your wife as you have to that stupid MB.
That MB will be long gone, but your wife will still be with you. ;)
