Frustrated about laptops

I'm now sending back my Winbook Z1 for several reasons:
1. The display is too washed out. This is not the SXGA+ Display, just the run of the mill 10x7 display. It was brilland, just over saturated.
2. The hard drive (toshiba) clunks alot...I juess I've gotten used to an IBM HD in laptops, quick, fast and quiet.
3. Heavy...I knew it was going to be 7+ pounds, but my god......
4. On it's defense tho, it ran smooth and cool, I could sit it on my lap for hours without getting burned, and it did play DVD's smoothly. Sound is fair.

Need some input as to what to get. I'm thinking about a Dell C600 or 800. I'm listening.

WinBooks give you a lot of bang for your buck but they just can't match the build quality and refinement of an IBM, Dell, Toshiba or Sony.

1) What is your budget?
2) What are the minimum specs you would like?
Specify CPU speed
RAM
screen size (12.1, 13.3, 14.1, or 15")
CD, DVD, or CD-RW
56k modem
Ethernet
Windows ME or 2000
3) What do you plan on doing with your laptop?
