Frozen lobster -- how to prepare and eat?

I bought a frozen, whole, cooked lobster because it was on sale for 5 bucks.

I thawed it 24 hours in fridge. Now I'm looking at this lobster and I have no idea how to eat it. I'm not even sure which parts you're supposed to eat, other than the tail. I see the meat in there but it seems like it's gonna be a lot of work to get to it. How do you get the meat out from the shell? What's the best way to prepare this?

Please help. I'm seriously thinking about just throwing this in the trash.

You can eat the whole thing, but most people just do the claws and tail. Steam it, drizzle with butter. Eat it with a fork and knife or make a sandwich.

It's what a lot of people would do with a $5 lobster.

Any tips on separating the meat from the shell?

They make tools specifically for that, but

Pliers?
Hammer?
Meat tenderizer?

And much of it can be broken with just your hands. If you can't crack part of the shell, you can use a fork to scoop out the meat.

When I cook lobster tails, I use kitchen shears to cut down each side - but I do that prior to cooking. It's been a few years since I did live lobsters; I suppose that method would work just as well. But, typically, we use nutcrackers.

I can't help but feel bad for any creature that gets cooked alive as i keep imagining it being me. If only they could scream like i can.

You'd just have to tape its mouth shut before putting it in the pot.

Yikes! A five dollar frozen lobster..:hmm: Though call. You could grill it. Spread a little butter over the top wrap it in tin foil and then throw it on for a few minutes. Drench it in garlic butter and....enjoy?

Being a noob, id steam it. The parts you want to eat are the big claws, and tail, to start. Use a nutcracker to crack the claws open and scoop out the meat with a fork. If the lobster wasnt eating itself, there should be plenty of meat there. The tail is all the segmented parts. Cut it off the lobster, split it down the back, and break it in half to get to the meat. If it was a female, cut open the body from underneath, which has little to eat btw, and scoop out the roe (egg sac) and eat that. Its green and snotty looking, but tastes sooooooo good. The little spider legs have meat in them too, but they can be a pain getting it out.

You paid 5.00 for a whole lobster, I doubt you get much out of it, but at least you'll know for next time. Consider it an experiment. A delicious experiment.

Peace

For the torso, pull the shell off and rip out the gills. Pull off the legs, and get the meat out of the knuckles one by one. Use a rolling pin on the legs to get the meat out.

Crack the shell long ways and then the other way, torso is pretty useless, you'll want to remove the little poop trail from the tail and get the meat from the claws. Throw away the rest.
