Frozen? Jerky? (Dead)

Tried playing Matrix in 8x DVD drive. The movie uses the PC Friendly software. Playback seemed jerky, and the video would occasionally freeze while the audio continued.

Have a G-force SDR that came bundled with Xing DVD, tried to play X-Men in same drive using Xing, saw one or two frames, video froze while the audio continued.

What do ineed to do, adjust settings on video card, settings in Xing? Buy new DVD software?

WHAT'S IT GONNA TAKE TO GET A LITTLE DVD AROUND HERE!?
