Frozen at the Boot Screen

Well, for starters my pc has been running poorly for a couple weeks and I was planning on reformating today. Every time I shut down windows has trouble ending "DebugLog.log" and I have to click the end process now button. However, last night I decided to install an FPS shooter (F.E.A.R. beta) and the installation required a restart. When I did so my system froze on the very first boot screen that shows the motherboard's logo and all. I restarted several times more, but still the same problem. There was no power going to the mouse or keyboard. I tried to boot off of my WinXP disk, but the system isn't even booting because it won't go past the first screen. I'm not really sure its the game I installed as much as it is my own computer because a friend installed the same demo on a very similar system and it worked fine. The only option I can think of now is to reset the CMOS by taking out the battery in the motherboard. Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

What power supply are you using?

I would reset your cmos with the jumper which should be near the battery and reseat your memory and video card.

I have an Aspire ATX 520w power supply that is about a year old. How do you reset the memory and video card? Thanks for your help.

He means reset your CMOS via the jumper. Power off the box, you'll find a jumper on your mobo that you can move over one position to clear cmos then move it back to the original position to operate.

"reseat" your memory and video card...pull em out, make sure they look clean and put em back in just in case something wiggled loose.

No, your game did not cause this problem. Your computer is not loading any portion of the OS so this is hardware related, not software.
