That is true for UI scrolling and games, but Froyo is fast enough to beat the ipad in browser benchmarks

That's just for how fast a webpage loads, a small factor in overall performance IMO. The base of the entire OS (iOS/WP7) is faster/smoother than Android.

On top of this, it's been known that the nexus 1 is the only android phone to take a true advantage of Froyo.

Yes, basically they should croak. But really, 99.9% of isheep don't know squat about their iProducts capabilities. They know that it turns on and does what Steve says it will do. This is why I make a fortune fixing Apple computers, the user know squat about why their comp just shat and kernel panicked. They just wipe out the comps and reinstall. I love Apple and Apple users, they make me tons of money. Your average iCrap user will only utilize 10% of what the iCant product can actually do that Steve doesnt want them to do.

And that is why Apple continuities to hit home run after home run in the consumer electronics world.

People don't want to have to use the remote to the USS George Washington to control their TV. People want simple. iDevices provide simple

I plug it in, I buy music. I go to the app store, buy an app. I go to the video store, buy a video. No tracking multiple accounts or entering my CC over and over again. Simple, streamlined.

I put my phone in my pocket and know it will last me a day or two. Don't have to do special battery tweaks or monitor what apps I didn't 'fully' close. The battery just lasts. Simple.

Ya know. I am not even going to touch this one. I could go off on so much with this that I would be banned until there is peace in the middle-east.

I would say that I don't fit the iSheep stereotype. I build PCs, but I enjoy owning my macbook pro and my iPhone. For my needs, those two devices fit the bill and I'll continue using them/enjoying them until there is another device that can win me over.

The reality is there are a lot of non-iPhone users that wish their phones would sync up as nicely with their PC's as iPhones do with Macs. That is one that that I really, really want.

Anyone who says that Apple sucks or iPhones suck are just ignorant.

Quite happily, I don't even need to bother syncing my phone to my PC. My gmail account does it all for me automatically. I haven't needed to connect my phone to my PC ever since I figured that out.

I flash a lot of different ROMs and each one wipes all apps and personal data. Sometimes going from a 2.2 to a 2.3 ROM will wipe the entire phone including pics, music and files. So in order for me to make sure I don't lose all my data, I have to backup using Titanium Backup, Sync with Appbrain, do a nandroid backup, copy all files and folder to my computer. A lot of times I will flash a ROM just to see what its about. So I have to invest a half hour each time. Same things with ROMs that are frequently updated. All info gets wiped and I have to spend a half hour restoring.

Its not a huge deal and not 100% necessary. But its something the iPhone does with iTunes without that much work and I want it.

What kind of ROMS are you flashing? Unless you have a phone that stores your pics, music and files on the internal memory, no ROM touches what is on the SDCard. ROMS go to the internal memory (which is where /system, /data, /apps are).

I agree that it's a pain that your system settings get erased when you flash roms, but you should never lose your pictures/music/files stored on the sdcard when you do.

iTunes is nice because it backs up everything, except folders. The only drawback is that you have to use iTunes, if for whatever reason you don't like iTunes.

You mean because iTunes is quite possibly the most poorly coded, resource hogging POS software on Windows today? Might be a reason not to like iTunes

No it isn't. The entire Android Market and its ecosystem is mediocre. It has the apps you need and its functional, but its quality is still something left to be desired.

iOS
http://appshopper.com/bestsellers/paid

Android
http://www.appbrain.com/apps/popular/

This. I don't see how Phandroid's can't admit this yet. I've been iPod less for a year now and I still think what I ran on iOS 2.0 was better than what I have on my Android phone now. Everytime my gf talks about her iPod Touch it makes me want to go out and buy one. I just can't justify 2 devices in my pocket right now.

But the quality of apps are night and day. So citing 100,000 apps on the Android market means absolutely NOTHING. The first 3 months of Apple's App Store apps (maybe that's only like 20,000 or something) was damn good already. We're years in with Android market, and the only thing people can brag about is their 100,000 apps. What about quality?

Well you are right, but are you adding music 24/7? I don't open iTunes all that much except to once in a while add some more music/update OS, etc. Otherwise I just plug into my computer to charge at night. Done.

iTunes doesn't have to be your main media player. It's just used when you want to transfer crap back and forth. Done. Plus, there's alternatives, and since everyone likes promoting the bells and whistles of Android which aren't features that everyday Joe will ever invoke, then I'm sure if you are willing to tweak your Android phone, you're willing to go use an iTunes alternative.

I may be wrong on this, and I would love for an Android developer to correct me, but I think that it boils down to the support that Apple provides to a developer.

2 things are true about all iOS devs... they are using an intel Mac running 10.5+ and have given Apple $99 for the privilege of just submitting their apps.

For that $99 they are also getting a massive, massive amount of resources. Sample code, HIGs, guidelines, manuals, learning materials, iTunes U has a large amount of stuff as well. I just don't think that Android/Google has that level of material available to their devs and it shows. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Android HIG, and Google provided resources for devs doesn't come close to what Apple has provided.

*Actually, a lot of that stuff that I mentioned you can also get for free from Apple, you just have to sign up on their developer site I believe.

The argument was about app quality, and none of that stuff changes the fact that iOS apps are much better. I've traversed the Android Market and the App Store, its like night and day. There are high quality apps being born in the App Store literally every day.

Slick, polished garbage is still garbage.

I'll take my widgets, even if they aren't as "fancy looking" as an iPhone app, simply because I can actually USE widgets.

If all the Android market had was a few hundred widgets, I'd take it over the iPhone's App Store any day.

Widgets > App List "home screen"

Some Vibrant roms wipe the internal storage. Seems to be a bug, but people still use them. I never would use a rom that wipes my internal storage.

I agree with most of your points, except these:

1. Does Android have folders? If I remember correctly it doesnt. I remember using a folders app, but it sucked bad. Aside from folders, iOS handles app management better on the home screen. On Android, if the screen is full, you have to move an app before you can put anything there. On iOS, its smart enough to do all of this in one step.

2. Without GPU acceleration (iOS/WP7 uses this), Android will never be as fast or responsive. Android phones would need a dual core SOC to match the same performance you can get from a GPU.

3. Isn't the Apple App store close to 300,000 apps now? That's besides the point, what I'm getting at is that Android apps aren't even close to rivaling the quality of iOS apps. Android fans like to bring up fart apps, but the fact is that Android apps is a fastfood burger, while iOS apps is a filet mignon.

4. True. Aside from music though, iTunes is a one stop shop for syncing. Photos, notes, books, contacts, apps, calendar. If you have iPhoto, syncing/management of photos is phenomenal. Geotagging, face tagging, albums, events, all of this syncs to your iPhone.

If you have, and you have to, a gmail account, it does almost everything you listed. If I look at my gallery on my phone all the images in my picasaweb album are there. All the contacts in my gmail account are on my phone.

As far as the ease of use of the platforms, Sure people that have been using iPhones from the beginning are going to be able to use iOS 4 fairly intuitively compared to moving to Android. Having used iOS or whatever was on my iPod Touch when they 1st came out, and using Android on my Vibrant, I much prefer the ease of use of Android.
If you want to compare the 2, compare them at the same time frame of product cycle. Android is way more advanced compared to how long it has been out compared to the iPhone based on when it came out.
And let's face it. If iPhones didn't exist, Android wouldn't either, but if Android didn't exist, Apple wouldn't be working on making iOS better.

In essense they need each other to force improvements.

You may be right. I went through and compared the sdk of android/iOS and iOS was much more robust and mature. Apple's got their standards down to the tee, but on the Android end, it's very loose.

Don't worry about Android app quality improving, I'm in the App Creator beta and I plan to CHURN out Android apps once it's live. I have no programing skills, but since it's drag & drop I don't need any really. And since it's gonna be available for free to everyone. I think we should see the quality of the Markets reduce even more into the dumps. But if I can make a quick buck I'm all for it.

Ya know people have different opinions than you, and it doesn't instantly make them wrong. I have an android device, its rooted and I have tried many different distro's (or whatever you want to call them) and my next phone will be an iphone. I want it to just work. And before you blast me, yes I know what both devices can do and the limitations of each.

I hate Widgets, minimalist screens ftw.

If you dont need a screen with shit on it, why dont you get a one-line, B&W Nokia?

No really, I'm serious. What else would you do with the screens? They serve no other function but to give you information. If you dont need the info why even have it?

Compare the two products based on their cycle?

Originally Android didn't even have a touch screen.

I have a bunch of icons on my screen, but I made them blank with Desktop Visualizer. So I can launch my commonly used apps and not clutter up my screen with icons. I never said I didn't need shit on my screen, I said I hate widgets, which I do. invisible icons ftw.
