So, I am primarily a Mac user, and I was gonna get the iPhone 4 white. Unfortunately, Apple seems to be have some unexplained manufacturing issue or something with the white, so it isn't going to come out for a very long time.
Then I got to thinking… I've recently picked up a Windows 7 machine and think it's actually half decent. Maybe I should do the same for Android. Maybe I'll like it. However, the Windows 7 machine is my secondary machine. Any new phone I get will have to be my primary phone.
Any Mac users here with an Android phone? How well do Macs and Android mate?
I had a look at my iPhone 3G to see what I actually use on a regular basis. It comes down to this:
1. The phone dammit! Unfortunately, the phone part of the iPhone 3G almost seems like an afterthought at times.
2. Mail. Apple's integration with Yahoo mail is excellent and I really enjoy using it with Y!. I do have Google mail, but don't really use it. It's more my avoiding-spam account than anything, so I don't really care how well the phone mates with Gmail.
3. Safari. I really like this browser. I downloaded Opera but didn't like it much.
4. Banking apps, for the Canadian banks.
5. Calendar. I am very dependent upon this, and use iCal on the Mac.
6. Contacts. I am very dependent upon this, and use Address Book on the Mac.
7. Skype. Only when on vacation or on a business trip.
8. Calculator. Should be fine on any platform methinks.
9. 3G data sharing with my laptop. Only when on vacation or on a business trip.
10. iPod music. I sync with iTunes, and most of my files are AAC, but 99.9% have no DRM. I can live without syncing my DRM'd AAC since there are so few of them. (I'm old school and buy the CDs, and them rip them myself.)
11. iPod for video. Actually I don't bother anymore. It's a big pain having to deal with iTunes for video. Now I just use a laptop, since when I'm on a trip I usually bring it with me anyway.
12. iTunes remote app. It's uber cool, esp. since I have two Airport Express units in the house streaming music, but I could live without it, at least for a few months.
Convince me to try an Android phone for at least several months. It has to be available in Canada.
Last year I wasn't impressed by any of the non-iPhone phones, but what are the options in November 2011?
