FrontX Review

Just got a Frontx bay, game port, 2 usb, 2 firewire, and microphone, headphone port. I have an Addtronics 7896 case, which unfortunately doesnt have no front ports at all. I was tired of pulling cables out of the back and needed a front solution.

What suprised me is that it shipped directly from Malaysia. They didn't charge shipping, instead they distribute the cost of shipping in the price of their products.

The Good.

Everything functions as promised, speaker sound cut out when plugging in headphones, usb works nicely, etc. etc. It has a door cover that can be easily removed and painted for those who have different color cases. The plastic is good quality, not thin, and all the cables are high quality and shrinkwrapped. I bought the internal cable version as my motherboard has all the connectors onboard. My case also requires drive rails, which had no problem on mine, but may be a problem on other cases. The cables are very long, even enough for my full tower.

The Bad.

Expensive, I don't see why they cant have a distributor in the US to offset their shipping costs.
The front of their bay is slightly too wide. It will not fit through my front panel. I am using an Addronics 7890 case. I had to mount it recessed, which in my opinion looks stupid. It would also be nice if it came with some wire ties (better yet a loom), but thankfully, I had some. I also would have liked the end connectors labeled (USB, Fireware, etc. etc.) The end connectors are not labeled at all. Not a big deal if you have a good motherboard manual that shows the pinouts.

I've used FrontX before myself. The only thing I have bought from them was just the small female connectors that hook the front panel up to your mother board for like the LED HDD, etc. I thought that their prices were very reasonable considering what you can do with their products. The only draw back is the shipping. When they say 6-10 days, well they mean what they say. It took 10 days for my package to arrive here in the eastern U.S.

my friend just got a DFI lanparty and it came with one of these things. would have been much better if this was in silver color.
