Frontpage sucks :(

Man I just got my new project at work today and I have to use FrontPage 97 with their extensions and crap .. ughh IIS on NT4 sucks too.

I want Notepad w/ Apache & PHP4

I asked the sysadmin 🙂disgust🙂 for an FTP account so I could just do everything myself and she said "Oh I dont know how to do that with out Frontpage setup .."

But you're right, FP97 is one of the worst programs ever. FP98 wasn't much better either. Only with FP2k things are looking a little better for this program.

I would if I had some sort of access (ftp ..) to the server w/o going through fp.

You try FTPing with the username/password for frontpage?

You honestly use notepad to code your pages? I don't know many people who are still using that for entire site design. Most of them have switched to editplus or hotdog. Maybe I'm strange, but looking at code w/o highlighted tags makes my head hurt after a while.

The 'FTP' 'function' of FP97 is the worst thing which can happen to you beside getting hit by a truck (although barely). I really hope you manage to get a real FTP account.

BTW I better won't start about those Frontpage 'extensions'. I can write some pretty long rants on it.

i been using dreamweavor/ultradev 4 and I am happy with it. Good luck, and maybe you can show the system admin how to setup a ftp account.

Frontpage 97 does suck. It replaces your code with its own code which it presumes is better. So if you have some javascript or something, it'll mess with it and it will stop working. Ask for a copy of Frontpage 2000 or 2002 if you need a WYSIWYG editor.

I had to use FP 2k at school. I hated it. I accedently hit the &quot;cancel&quot; button on &quot;Do you wish to save&quot; and it formated my Zip disk! I lost 2 weeks of work! And the funny part is I did it again, 2 days later🙁 So I use NotePad, or if I'm lazy (most of time) i use DreamWeaver.

Yeah, I have Frontpage 2000 that was bundled with PhotoDraw 2000 together for $100. That's only $50 a program and at the time, Frontpage was just a lot easier to work with. Now I code all my pages by hand through CuteHTML.
