Front USB doesn't work on Antec 900

Hi all,

I have a new Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P mobo in an Antec 900 case and everything is working fine and dandy except for one thing. The case itself has two front USB ports (and an IEEE 1394 port, but the motherboard doesn't support it), which I have connected internally, but only the one on the right actually works. I have tested them with multiple different devices, and none of them work in the left port. I've also tried re-seating the connector. No luck.

Any thoughts on why one USB port should work while the other does not?

Consider that it may not be connected to a mother board port? Check carefully the wiring of that port.

As far as I can see, there is only one cable coming from the front panel labeled 'USB' and it is indeed plugged into the motherboard. Hence why the rightmost port functions. Can anyone else with the 900 case confirm that both USB ports are wired with a single connector to the motherboard?

EDIT: I should clarify, it looks to me like there are two cables labeled USB, each with four internal wires, but they share a common, eight-pin connector at the end.

Have you tried the plug in the other usb pinout on the board? This will eliminate or confirm which is bad, mobo or case wiring.

Both connection points on the motherboard have the same result: left port doesn't work, right port does. Is the consensus that it's the case?

/troll should have gone AMD!

j/k

Your case manual and motherboard manual should give you the pinouts for the connector and the socket. Make sure you are not plugging it in backwards. I looked at both the 900 and the gigabyte manual and they do match up.

opps posted too fast

If you are hooking up like that and didn't plug anything wrong into your motherboard headers you are probably looking at a bad connection to the front USB's. If you have a multimeter you can test continuity on each pin and see if it's connected at the port and header.

That is probably where the problem is - the 8-pin connector.
