Most people seem to just remove it and carry on.

Yeah when I googled, it looks like removing it is an eco-modder thing. But I also saw some electrical cables & connectors underneath, so maybe on older cars they don't have that stuff in there.

Nothing like a tiny bouncing rock on the highway to put a nice, giant crack in your windshield! :thumbsdown:

Parts came in yesterday to the shop. Turns out the metal plate in the middle was fused to a larger plastic shield that covered the front half of the car, so the entire section had to be replaced. Total repair was around $150, half parts half labor. But at least it's ready for winter again, no more exposed wires!

That's not bad, and it will probably pay dividends later when the lease is up and they do a mechanical and cosmetic inspection. They will charge insane fees if there is unrepaired damage that isn't in the lease agreement (the kind caused by running over stuff from other people's cars).

Yeah, although we are thinking about buying it out. My Volvo gets 20 MPG and her Civic gets 40 MPG, literally double the mileage. We've both leased the last 10 years or so, occasionally buying a car (usually a beater haha) and driving it til it dies, so it may be time to get something more reliable we can really put some miles on.

Although I'd rather get something AWD like a Forester, since I live in New England and have to drive in snow a lot.
