Front license plate fix it ticket in CA

Any way to weasel out of it?
I never had it on my car since I bought it. I was at LAX, and this bored cop pulls me over for it, gives me a speech about how it's so important to have one after 9/11 for security. Yeah, financial security of the city and red light photo operators

Anyways, I really don't feel like going to DMV and standing in line for new plates, going to dealer to get front plate bracket, etc. What happens if I don't fix it? I would rather pay a fine than go through this nonsense for a car I will sell this year most likely.

u have to fix it and pay $10 fine think for the fix ticket. As for licenes bracket its not required by law just the plate.

its the law. there not much you can do. Police departments are hard up for money so they are gonna really start cracking down on these types of things. although, if you get it fixed it wont cost ya a dime.

CA won't require inspection on cars, but they require a friggin license plate on the front ?

Back into a parking spot
Take the plate off the back
Using double-sided tape, stick it to your front bumper
Have someone verify that you have the front plate

Voila! All better 😉 😛

I have not had mine on for almost a year now and I have not been pulled over for it yet (knock on wood)

Off topic but kinda related;

They don't even issue them in Alberta but I think every other province does. Fine by me.

yeah he's bored.

my buddy is a cop in San Jose, even though the city is supposedly cash strap he doesn't care about no front plates. He won't pull you over for it. BUt if he pulls you over for a speeding ticket and you give him lip about it he'll tack it on.

He says the worst thing is at the end of the day when he just wants to go home but people drive slow as hell when there's a cop behind him. haha.

In LA county, get it signed off by a cop, wait in court line, pay $10, boom ur done.

In SD county, get it signed off by a cop, wait for 3 weeks, wait in court line, stand before a judge, he says your okay, no money fee, your done.

Oh, I got it in LA, but I live in Sunnyvale (bay area). Do I need to go to LA for this?

Also, once I get it signed off, can I get rid of the plate? I think they look nasty, and the added risk of red light cameras is not worth having one.

are u willing to get a ticket again also is your city requiers you to have plates on front plate?

I am willing to get a small ticket every couple years, no problem, if it saves me an $271 red light camera ticket. 🙂
I haven't had this plate for 3 years since I bought the car used. First ticket.

how hard is it to stop for a red light?

On a related note. I got a "fixit ticket" for not having my registration sticker on my car up to date. I forgot to get smogged apparently. So I got my car smog checked and am waiting for my sticker to come. So my question is, "When I get my sticker what do I do then? Pull a cop over somehow and have him inspect it? Go to DMV and wait 4 hours only to be told I'm in the wrong line and someone try to find one of their incompetent morons to sign off on my car? Go to court on the day it says and show them that my car is cool?" (Ok so it was many questions 😉 )

I don't have a front plate either and I live in Los Angeles. I used to get a "no front plate" ticket from parking enforcement nearly every month when I had to park on the street. It was never a fix-it ticket, so I could get away with just paying the $27 or so dollars.

My girlfriend got pulled over once and was written up with the "fix-it" version.

I don't have any advice, besides double checking that you actually have the "fix-it" version.

So you haven't ran a red light in 3 years? Let's see $10 fix it ticket every 3 years you can drive for 81 years and still cost you less than one $270 red light camera ticket. I am not feeling lucky.

Why would you ever run through a red light anyway? I've go through some when they are pretty yellow (is that what you mean by running one?). Do you just blast through an obviously red light or what? That would be extremely stupid an dangerous and why would you do it....to save 30 seconds so you can get home and post an extra post or two on ATOT ?

You can get a camera ticket from going through the yellows now? I'd better watch it. 😉

California required a front plate long before the Photo Red Light program, which started in July 2000. Link

"Yeah, financial security of the city and red light photo operators..."

Yeah, everybody else should obey the law, but not you, you're special.
