1. I don't "stalk you"
2. I don't expect someone biased like you to understand reason
3. I do feel free to PM you... just like I feel free to PM anybody else. Of course I have absolutely no desire to do this at all.

As for numbers 1 & 2: Don't even.
The PM comment was an invite to talk things out. Maybe bury the hatchet. I've done something terrible to you and I want to find out what that is. Seriously.

What is there to defend? All things considered, sounds like Nvidia had a pretty good qtr. Certainly not the demise predicted over the past 3 months.

I really didn't get what he meant either. I think the conference call gave us a good amount of info. Especially the number of Fermi units shipped thus far.

Oh I know I have told you this before but you can edit your posts. You don't need to pad your post count by posting back to back.

If you were able to get the number of Fermi units shipped out of that please share.
All I got out of it is vaguely we made a good amount of money and things are better than expected. Not sure how you would calculate number of Fermi units out of that profit number.

That's because I didn't...

"Shipped a few hundred thousand Fermi units"

Shipped is not sold. I could spend hours talking to you about various accounting number pumping schemes involving shipped units instead of actual sales.

I understand fanboys but, why would anyone with a modicum of intelligence truly want Nvidia or ATI to go under? Competition is a good thing. Even though I'm personally biased towards ATI, I hope Nvidia makes money and continues to compete.

Which is "probably" why they used the word "shipped" and not "sold". Just a hunch.
Regardless of whether they shipped, or sold, it still answers another question we've all been pondering since well before Fermi's launch. Looks like there were more than 10,000. :D

Thanks thought you might have found a more exact number.
Hmm so a few hunderd thousand I assume would mean at least 200,000 but probably not over 500,000 (if it were I'd expect a higher sounding like "close to a million" or over 500,000).

Dark4ng3l, Keys was asked a question and he answered it. No where did anyone say how many were sold or asked how many were sold.

Does the AMD marketing department require reading comprehesion skills?
Even Charlie,Will Robinson, Groveriding, and T2K can read.

Well unlike you I am not going to speculate about these things. Of course you have special insider info that you can't disclose but will prove you to be right if you could do that. I mean there is no way anyone could ever argue with anything a MOD who has access to FREE NVIDIA PRODUCTS says right?

Learning curve too steep for you? We'll give you some more free time to try and master it.

I use the term "few" when I'm referencing a number greater than two. I also use "several" if it's over two of anything. So I'd guess three hundred thousand. At least that's the context in which I'd use "few".

It seems common for you to stoop to using the "free Nvidia products" line whenever you stick your foot in your mouth?

You should try stealth trolling, believe me it works better. I can lend you a gtx 470 card or two. :D

Oh come on. I'm not the one that is speculating about what the meaning of the OP is. Really I mean for some reason unknown to me(or not) Keys is always the first guy to either defend anything nvidia or make sure that people buy the exaggerated version.

Need I remind you guys of this?

Seriously I will let it go and respect Keys the day I see him suggesting both product lines to potential buyers as well as helping people with problems on both sides. Of course this won't happen. He is not really free to say whatever he wants. He is probably allowed to do that on paper but you know that if he starts saying things that dear leader does not like they will "reconsider" their investment in him.

It may be, but the definition of "few" is "not many but more than one".
Since they did not use the term "several" which means "being more than two but fewer than many in number or kind"
I'm inclined to believe the number is between 200k-300k.

My local computer store told me they sold 1,576 cards in the past 2 weeks. I live in a area where most can afford air conditioning, the extra 3$ a month to run them ,and the cards themselves.

Your local store must be in the getto?
Lol. Highly unlikely.

Funny the guy next door works for AMD and has what he calls the "ultimate graphics combo" two gtx 480's in sli. (He also has a box with a 5970). He must be a Nvidia fanboy too.
Or mabe he's my partner in the new stealth Nvidia fanboy group I'm in?
That proves nothing, Keyplayr has a 5870, is he a stealth ATi fanboy?

In 2 weeks Nvidia enters the middle market with DX11 chips. It appears they got through the AMD 8 month lead just fine and should see some nice growth from a wider portfolio through the end of the year.
What are you smoking? Few hundred thousand compared to 6 million? Try again please.

There selling out because not only are the fanboys buying them but most people are trading in there 5850's & 5870's and for a gtx 470/480.
My local computer shop told me this ,they do trade ins like Gamestop.

Thats nothing

At my local shop, there are two lines. One for regular buying, one just for GTX 480. They take trade-ins also. I see guys coming in with ATi cards and even saw a guy trading in the rims off his car once.

Fermi isn't just GTX480/GTX470, so a few hundred thousand will also include Tesla and Quadro based parts.

At a lot higher margins too.
And NVIDIA don't sell to consumers...they sell to AIB's ;)

The response to the margins question was hilarious.

One of the investment bankers asked about margins, and then the NV guy (not sure which one it was) mentioned mid to high 50s in the margins, and the guy said "Did you mean to say high 40's, because I can't believe you meant high 50s" to which the NV bloke said "No, we're really aiming for mid to high 50s".

I mean, it makes sense from a business perspective when they are growing their high margin sales, but the analyst couldn't believe it.

(And thanks for reminding me about the conference call by posting financials in another thread. Completely forgot about it because I was trying to play SC2 beta - except Blizz turned off the EU BNet server for over 6 freaking hours.)

This is a made up story.

I live next door to a guy from Nvidia and ATI and also Bill Gates.... oh wait.

It's good that Nvidia is 'probably' doing ok with Fermi and the process node is 'probably' maturing pretty quick- that's great. I look forward to a Fermi 512 and a refresh ASAP.

Looks like we should expect bankruptcy in the next few weeks. Obviously the Fermi debacle killed them, only $2.7Billion in liquid assets/early debt pay downs and profiting a million dollars a day..... they really should have listened to the staggering intellects here on the AT forums, they could have helped prevent them from suffering this painful demise :(
