Not sure when it's coming out but I'll be keeping my eye out for it.

Others I'm waiting for:
Project Origin << looks sooo good!!
Fallout 3
FarCry 2
Saints Row 2
Spiderman -Web of Shadows
The new Wolfenstein
Pure

Obviously I dig the action/FPS genre

What do you guys have to say about these upcoming games?

I showed the trailer to my wife yesterday and today she told me she had a nightmare starring the freaky guy without lips:lips:.

Yeah. Looks like it could be more immersive than D3, and that could make or break a game. I didn't see too much weapon action though and realistic weapons, gun play, AI, and damage also makes or breaks a game.

The one linked at the bottom from QuakeCon has a little more footage.

The graphics are excellent, as expected, but nothing about the trailers made it look like fun. It's just Doom (stupid looking monsters) with the dune buggy from Half Life. :-/

Yea, that QuakeCon video looks fantastic. I actually think it looks like it could be really fun. The combat in the driving looks pretty good (destruction of the vehicles), as well as the idea of a sandbox type game from id.

Hopefully there are a lot of varied terrains/environments that can be traveled to without any loading, etc.

Looks pretty, but would be nice to see what gameplay is like. Also, I feel like the guys with brown masks and metal eye pieces were complete rip-offs of Star Wars' sand people.

Yes, I am awaiting all these titles as well. Just throw in Stalker: Clear Sky to round it off. Gonna be an expensive fall/winter. I have to tell you this one hasn't even been on my radar. First I've seen of it. Seems the are trying to do this road warrior/waterworld kind of thing. Looks pretty good. It's not all driving is it?

Of course it could be another Jericho.........we'll have to wait and see I guess............

I see a lot of rip-offs. Mad Max post-apocalypse type world with sand people.

Watch all the media from Quakecon, makes it look amazing. They have interviews with the lead developer and carmack.

I don't know why everyone hates on D3. It wasn't amazing beyond its graphical aspects in that it broke no new ground gameplay wise...but its not like it was shit either. It was more polished then your standard crash fests and had good atmosphere in the early levels. I actually enjoyed the game up until "return to the return of the return of delta labs - 4 hour extended edition: more monster closets". They should have just cut that section right out. Certainly, not an amazing game on its own...but I don't remember quake 3 doing anything new or different besides graphics. iD makes game engines with cybernetic robot demons as the tech demo.

Can't speak for other folks but I played farcry before doom 3 came out. For me doom3 was pretty but the mechanics were lacking (compared to farcry). It isn't that farcry had a huge amount of interaction with the environment but it had a little. You could sneak, or push an occasional lever - jump on to things and such. I found Doom 3 (and later quake 4) to be very 'plain'. Sure they were pretty and had decent graphics but you couldn't break things and you could only jump on those 'special' boxes they intended you to climb over. The maps were very linear for the most part with a predetermined correct path. Not much in the way of levers or sneaking or much else.... Kind of boring.

Yea, I got that too.

Still looks as though it has potential.

Let me quote myself for a second. I'll give you the movie equivalent. It could be another Doomsday....... Man, looked like it had real potential, good story, cool atmosphere, not original by any means but you'd never know how much of a dog it was by the previews. There's even some similarities it appears.

I also liked Doom 3 as a game. The length was good, the weapons and basic combat were reasonably fun and the story had a surprising amount of depth and detail to it, even if it was all told through those PDAs. What turned me off about the game was actually its most hyped feature, the graphics engine. The game didn't look any better than others of that era, having good lighting but distinctly below-average textures, and the fixed physics rate and its effect on performance constantly annoyed me throughout the game. I think Far Cry and Riddick:EFBB both looked better in different ways, without carrying any such issues.

The game play in Doom3 was actually unique, in that respect it was also uniquely hated. What people found out through Doom3 was that most casual players did not like having to choose between a flashlight and a weapon, it was too scary or frustrating for them. (Most will tell you it was just frustrating but I don't personally buy it).

Comparing it to Quake3 is a big difference though. Quake3 didn't need to do anything different in the game play because it was a multiplayer based community that was already huge. So the best thing Quake3 did was the engine, an incredibly scaleable engine that went on to be used in many, many scenarios from there on out.

I agree with you in some respects. We are finding that regardless of how good an engine looks, low res textures supersede everything else because people spot those first. And Doom3 did have some oddly low res textures, but it also had some amazing architecture, the likes of which no game even now has pulled off. The indoor environments were insanely complex, pipes going everywhere, all sorts of structures, million different surfaces. The engine did this incredibly well as seen by the fact that architecture and the way the world shapes itself were both seen in Quake 4 and Prey as well.

I liked Doom3 because it was just a mind-less shooter like Doom, Quake/Quake2 etc. with no sneaking or thinking. I hate thinking!:)
