in the latest issue of EGM there's a rumor regarding the release of FF XI in the US:

Skip XI and Go Right to XII

...Kicking off the Square rumorpalooza this month is word that Final Fantasy XI, the online installment of the series that gamers are currently enjoying in Japan, may not get a stateside release at all. Why? With the servers to maintain and police, technical support to give, and games to monitor, the RPG maker's U.S. operation can't do it alone. Only someone the size of EA or Sony could lay the proper groundwork. Without that, the game may have to skip a US release entirely. What does that mean to you, the scrawny lil' American gamer already in the midst of posting this tasty rumor on message boards across the Internet? [THAT'S ME, but i'm not very scrawny, hehe] Three possibilities. One, Square secures a partner to do the dirty work and the game's released here next year no problem. Or, the next Final Fantasy to be released on PS2 in the US could be XII, skipping over XI entirely. The final option is that one or all of the three Final Fantasy Gaidens based on FFX scheduled for release in the near future in Japan may be brought to America as XI...

This being said... i wouldn't mind if the game never got released here. If Square US admits that they cannot maintain the game so it runs smoothly, then it's better that the game never be played at all. Better to not waste money on a crappy online gaming experience.

It's coming out on the PC. You'd be able to import it and play it that way. Very similar to those who bought Ultima Online in Japan and played on US servers. They had their own buds and their own language. Surely FF XI will support english characters. UO supported Japanese (and other Asian ones were added).

Hopefully lag won't be a problem.

hahahahaha, Gaiden means "side story"

Final Fantasy Gaiden is an off-shoot of FFX. Apparently Yuna and the crew hear something about Tidus re-appearing or something like that.

thing is, there might not be US servers at all. If we import it, we'd have to play on the Japanese servers. And there WOULD be lag in that case.

I dunno, but the Final Fantasy games are simply amazing!!!

Final Fantasy 7 was my first FF game, and first RPG. It was AMAZING!!!! The only problem was I never beat it, I got to the last part, almost at the final battle and ended up having to give it back to a friend, never finished it. Im really far in Final Fantasy 10 right now. Ive played 8 a little bit but didnt get very far. Haven't really played the others much, but Im considering going all out and playing every single one until I beat them all. Think its worth it?

abso-freaking-lutely :D

FF1 and FF2 are going to be re-done and released for the PS1 soon i think. No word on FF3 yet.

FF4 you can get in the Final Fantasy Chronicles. It comes with Chrono Trigger, another amazing Squaresoft RPG.

FF5 and FF6 you get in the Final Fantasy Anthology.

FF7 you know about :)

FF8 is good, but not spectacular. Nice cut scenes and good story, but I wasn't too hot about the magic system

FF9 is really good too. You should definitely play this one too.

And FFX you're playing now.

For me, my faves are FF4 and FF6. They have the ABSOLUTE BEST STORIES EVER. FF6 has the biggest, most vibrant set of characters too. And FF6 has the best soundtrack.

If you like Final Fantasy, DO NOT MISS FF4 AND FF6.

This is a PRIME criterion if you want to be known as a TRUE Final Fantasy fan.

Okay Sony owns how much of Square? EA owns more than thaem, I think outside parties own a majority share, and they dont have the groundwork to release stateside and are looking for parteners? Uh its gotta be BS.

I could have sworn the whole reason(or the one publically stated by Square officals) why the Square and Microsoft talks have continued for 30 months now is because Square wanted to control their own network. Now they are saying they cant? Its gotta be BS or MS and Square are close to a deal. Unless there were other sticking points(Sony own a % has no effect, look at Rare, Sony by themselves dont have anywhere near control of Square, even if Square and EA teamed up I dont think they could control square). I mean if they are looking for a partner in the US that has the groundwork for it, the only one is MS, they are the only one that has the capabilities in place RIGHT NOW. Sony doesnt have the online capabilities needed in the US at the current time and neither does EA.

the problem with FF6 is that theres no main character... sure, theres the one the story is supposed to be about but shes gone so often that shes only available for your party half the game... and then theres the fact that everyone can use magic... i had edgar casting ultima 2x/round for 2 mp... frickin' ridiculous...

FF4 was by far the best... sooo many plot twists... golbez rawks!

well I hate to say FF4 and FF7 are the best final fantasies(and that 5 is the worst, only released in japan, too exept for FF remake with FF6) But if you are a true FF fan get FF chronicles, Chrono trigger is much better than any final fantasy......
