Its win2k as well, and only a month old (awwww!!!)
If i removed the via 4in1's would the OS take the new mobo change without any complaints?

For my next Q, seeing as it was my first 2k install, and not yet had to reinstall it.
On booting off the cd and selecting reinstall or something to that effect, will it wipe out the original config but keep my existing data? with 98 i used to find that doing a reinstall without first removing the windows directory would still bring over the probs that made you reinstall in the first place!

NO REINSTALL NEEDED!!!!!!!

Just reinstall the VIA 4in1 drivers under win2k.

I have upgraded 3 system this way. NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM

Several A7V133 to Epox 8KHA+/Abit KR7A

You don't have to reinstall Windows but it's highly recommended that you do so. In the long run it'll probably save you a lot of problems.

It really isnt necessary. Even in the long run. My copy if Win2k is installed last august. Upgraded to DDR last oct. Numerous Program installs, drivers install, hardware upgrades in between. EVEN NOW my win2k is still stable as hell. Hard crash is rare and reboots rarely forced. Same for WinXP.

Just what i wanted to hear! 😉
I'm currently prepping my system up for a fresh install i.e. backing up those things that matter, but i'll give just changing the hardware a go first, as the words spoken by xtreme2k and soulm4tter pretty much sum my situation anyway. 😀

fresh board fresh start! Unless your under the gun and have no time! But if your getting paid for this why not just recommend that they reinstall the OS then sell them XP and the installation, or just charge to reinstall the OS and it will all be that simple !

I agree it`s recommended you do so,I remember when I swapped an Intel board for VIA one and I got it running ok but it was flaky in the beginning until I deleted some things, ironically my AMD cpu went faulty after 5 weeks and I had to do a fresh install of OS with the new cpu since the old one messed the OS up. I now always do a fresh install saves time in the long run.

🙂

5 minutes into windows kinda temps, its risen to 39 after half an hour with some gaming thrown in
as far as i'm concerned the machine is in Beta now, so its time to give it a thoro testin!

<< Why would i want to sell myself XP? >>

oh sorry I just thought that you were not doing this for your self ! I would never question reinstalling an OS with a newboard for myself!

I say try it. If you can do it succesfully, then go with it. If you cannot, then just Format and do a clean install.

Well i shall just say that its behaving just fine - no crashes, bugs or anything.
The ATI card had a bitch about it, but a reinstall of its drivers shut the hoe up 🙂

Damn this thing is fast! 3x faster than my ole duron 😀
