I thought it was a great movie. Johnny Depp was great as always. They had me fooled as to who the real Ripper was up until the last 15-30 minutes or so....

Heather Graham not naked brings it down a notch....
As hot as she is, do you really want to see her naked while in character as a nineteenth century Whitechapel whore?

I give it 3 digits up :D;):Q

EDIT: (hit post too quickly) If I enjoyed seeing her as a 20th century pornstar whole, why wouldn't I enjoy seeing her as a 19th century one? ;)
Two words: Bikini wax.

Ugh, good point.
I'd still hit it.
I've had girlfriends before that refused to take the hedge trimmers down to the garden, and wouldn't even think about putting down a layer of plant killer.

Sarcasm? (gives Sarcasm-O-Meter a good kicking). :D

Seriously though, they kind of threw out a red herring with that young surgeon guy (can't remember his name now) who was really good with surgical instruments, had knowledge of anatomy, etc. That's what had me fooled for a while....

He didnt leave her because of his addiction, or choose the drug over the women. He didn't leave because he did not want to risk Heather Grahams (forgot character name) life. He was certain that the family would watch over him to make sure they had not missed a link in the chain that witnessed the princes marriage to an "unfortunate". He sacrificed his relationship with her, instead of taking the chance of the Society watching him, finding out where she was, and killing her. Thats why his assistant kept insisting that he felt it was safe for him to go to her, that they couldn't still be watching him.

The royal family thought they had dispatched all that had witnessed the marriage, and would obviously stop at nothing to rid themselves of one more witness. It wasn't just the ripper that was involved, the police chief even knew what was going on, as did the Society. I am sure it would not be too difficult to find another who was loyal to the family to take out the last threat to the throne.

Whats wrong with that ending?

um... it suxx0rz and ruins the movie?
Seriously, everyone but Depp had moved on with their lives. So it makes Depps explanation of why he didn't go basically null and void and makes the ending seem forced, crappy, and not good for the story.

I disagree, he sacrifices the possible life he could have with her, so that she can live the life she had always dreamed of. As opposed to living with her, and having them find out there was still 1 witness left, and most likely getting her killed.

You are obviously welcome to think what you will of the movie, but I enjoyed the ending.

Well - the entire movie is just another theory of The Ripper - I think Depp doesn't end up w/ her to explain why the girl was never to be discovered and how it was all kept under a tight cover of conspiracy.

how can you say that it was historically accurate? we know next to nothing as far as who the ripper really was, so the idea that he was caught is inane, almost as funny as the theory that it was the prince himself killing. the theory proposed in the movie is a combination of multiple theories, which make a fun story, but not very plausible. and if you want to look at it historically, who in the hell thought up a twist as hollywood as the investigator falling in love w/ the heroine/damsel in distress?
besides, in real life, heather graham's character was killed as well - the last of the killings

Damn, I really liked this movie too. I guess either I have terrible taste in movies, or most of you do. Hehe.

You can catch this movie regularly on cinemax if there are folks who haven't seen it yet.

she was referencing the places of the murders and how the city looked at that time. Go look at some of the drawings made by the police back in the 1880's of the locations.

I actually really enjoyed the movie. The ending wasn't your typical fairy tail happy ending which is what made it good... Atleast in my opinion :)

I thought it could have been better, but I don't think it sucked. I think they should have followed the real JTR story more closely than they did.
