How many people here have spent a whole year of their lives dedicating it toward just one thing? Not only that, but dedicate it toward just a CHANCE that something may happen. If the chance that you lose comes up, you want to COMPLETELY make sure that you lost it. If you lost it, then you basically wasted an entire year of your life. You might as well have stayed home and started at the hole in the wall the whole time.
BUT, if there's a chance there was a mistake lead to the reason you didn't win, you'd check out that possibility to the fullest extent wouldn't you? Otherwise, the next four years you had planned doing would no longer exist, instead you'll have to rework your whole life around, and never get that year out of your life back. I mean, to want something so much that you'd dedicate a portion of your life to get it, only to not get it because of some bad luck that was out of your hands would really really really suck. YOU should be the one who ultimately decide your own fate, not because of a miniscule error.
So imagine YOU were Gore, would you say, "Hey I have a chance to fight this, but forget it, I spent a whole year working on this, a few more weeks would just be too much."
