Hi i'm DSL user, i hope will be a former DSL user in a month because how i know cable
has x5 speed than DSL (300mbps).
Now about hardware: what kind of connections i need to have? Or MOB already got it?
ASUS P4P800 SE got plug just for CAT connection, will it work wit CABLE too?
And final one: how cable company prowides internet connection: by aditional special
cable line or from regular CableTV line with filter or some kind of device which will split
TV chanels from PC internet connections?

The Cable service provider probebly would give you a Cable Modem.

That it, Just the Modem, every thing else Hardware vise stays the same.

If you have a Cable/DSL Router you have to change the setting to for the Cable connection, and probably clone the authentication MAC.

TCP/IP parameters need to be changed too.

If No outlet is available, then it has to be installed, but otherwise No additional devices the Cable Modem connects as is to the Cable TV line.

Cable guy will supply everything, no need to do anything....cable and internet runs off same cable, he just install a splitter to run 1 cable to tv and another to your modem.

That's only something you can answer. It depends for most people on 1. Cost and 2. Your situation. If you need more bandwidth than the DSL will provide and if it's cheaper than DSL, I'd say go with it. If you don't need any more bandwidth and it's still cheaper, then go with it. On a technical sense, I think cable is a better technology than DSL. To me, DSL is an outdated technology and it'll only get worse. It has alot of limitations that cable won't have and will never have. In my experience, cable has also been much more reliable because of the limitations DSL has. If the weather was bad or it had rained alot, my old DSL line would suffer and sometimes go out completely whereas my cable has gone down for about 10 minutes in the last two years that I've had it

OPTIMUM have "Get the first 6 months at $23.90 /month* when you install it yourself".
$24 is ok but it doesn't saying about agrrement time(1-2y) with 15mb speed(i guess)
also price after 6 month(????).
DSL cost for me $30 in a month for full year, that's $360+$20(activisation)=$380 total
with 1.5-2 mb speed. And it can be taken every year for $30 with one year agreement.
OPTIMUM' charging 6x$24+$15(activ)=$160 and probably rest of year will charge $45.
That's 6x $45(or $50)= $270~$300. And total $160+ $300=$460. It's extra $80.
Maybe it cost with 15mb speed vs. DSL's 2mb, but what after 1 year ? They will charge
me full $50 , will they? 12x $50= $600. This is a lot for me:
$380 vs $600 .

Here's another link to JackMDS's "difference between DSL and Cable". http://www.ezlan.net/DSL_Cable.html

I get Verizon DSL 768Kb service for $15 (new signups $18 I think) a month for a year, and it's plenty for me. Where I live the Cable is the one that has troubles when it rains. If it was me, I would take 2Mb for $30 fixed and be happy if the speed / service was consistant. You know the Cable will go up to at least $45 and maybe more later. Quality of service with each type will vary greatly depending on your area of the country and your specific location.
