Neil vs Buddy

Buddy was slightly faster (and out of control like when he hit the microphone at the beginning of the video) but Neil is just so much more complex and edges Buddy out because he adds so many more sounds (look at Peart's use of bass at the end of the video). To me, it's like comparing if Magic (could do everything) or Bird (such a great shooter) was better at basketball.

...and Buddy was Peart's idol. I'm pretty sure he wakes up every morning wishing he were as good as Buddy. Peart is absolutely fantastic, but he'll be the first person to tell you that he just hasn't eclipsed his idol.

I don't know much but I liked how hard John Bonham hit them. I have this Live moby dick track and it goes for like 30 min just tearing it up.

Survey drummers in rock bands and the #1 answer for "who is your biggest influence/inspiration?" would be Neil Peart.

For this old-timer, Terry Bozio, Phil Collins, and Bill Bruford. If I get time at work, I'll list their various projects.

I won't get into the classic jazz drummers like Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, Louie Bellson since there are too many to list there.
