Damn Dari, doesn't it trouble you that Bush owes his place in history to the terrorists? He went from milquetoast lame duck to self-described war president able to ram through his agenda ... and it's all because of al Qaeda. Good grief, the GOP better hope they never catch OBL!

His mannerisms and his verbage at times make him seem idiotic but he's not.

You keep forgetting his governship, don't you? How convenient is it to cherry-pick history?
Yeah, what Rainsford said. Nobody remember governors. Unless you're talking about world-records for executing the mentally ill. Or executing anyone for that matter. Otherwise, governors tend to be relegated to the historical dust bin. Presidents, on the other hand, usually get a whole lot more attention.Originally posted by: Rainsford

Nobody remembers the vast majority of governors, at least not on the same scale. You think Bush would be in the history books for his time as governor of Texas? Give me a break.

maybe so, but most people have only seen him as the president of the USOriginally posted by: Dari

What changed is that now Bush has become confident in himself, before he was unsure what he could do.
The difference to the people is that before people saw that and they thought he was a joke, he had the weird ideals and not exactly a way to put them into action. Now he can and people know he can put his own ideas into action.
You've just seen him as President and are assuming that. During his two-terms as governor of Texas, Bush was very effective.
expecialy if you take a look at his public performance, when he is doing speeches, there is a world of difference
That's perception and it can be very deceptive. Maybe that's why people assumed that he was an idiot and didn't bother to look deeper. Either way, his opponents didn't do their homework, now they have no one to blame for their stupidity.

Being a governor of Texas is simply no comparison to a two-term U.S. President.Originally posted by: Dari
