2 gigs of ram is not necessary if you are playing games...
but if you are using 2d/3d software which requieres a loot of rams, then 2 gigs of ram is becoming standard..

In your case, unless your x800 Gto is unlocked, I'd save towards a newer graphics card before upgrading to 2 gigs. That will help more in single player games.

OP, in your case, 2 gigs is unnecessary. Hard Drive Review

I tend to play BF2 single player, not a fan of multiplayer, I'm in the middle of F.E.A.R (Although it wasn't running badly on 512mb of RAM, to be honest. Never seen it on 1gb in my system) and I quite often play Sacred and NWN.

I know that it's quite often that games rely more on the graphics card than any other piece of the hardware, but what's the point in having some beastly bits and some absolute crap, eh?

You have a nice system as it is. The extra RAM might not be worth it if you just play single player. The benifit of using 2Gb ram will be small. My system played fine with 1GB ram in BF2 (single player). Then when I tried going online with 64 players I found it was unplayable. Upgrading to 2GB help a lot.

If you like playing games the single best piece of hardware you can buy is a faster video card. If you overclock your processor you should be OK for a while. The faster processor may buy you a few more frame rates but that will be nothing compared to what you will get wilth a faster video card.

If you have an X2 processor then the potential benefits of 2gb will be much greater than with a single proc system. Multiple active intecsive taks will use up 1gb of ram much more likely than a single proc will

The disk subsystem is the slowest part of any system large or small, address setting up multiple drives on different channels as a 1st step
