We're looking into replacing our range, microwave, and dishwasher since they're all broken to some degree. Frigidaire has some pretty good deals in our area and we were thinking about going with them but was informed but another appliance store they aren't very good. Are these the cheaper of the appliances and prone to being junkier than usual.

I hope not. I looked around the net for reviews, but I couldn't find much on appliances. So, we just went for what looked best. We bought a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwaher. All nice looking stainless steel. They had rebates and I think we're supposed to get like $400 back. They had the only refrigerator that was stainless steel on the sides as well as the front. All others have black sides. Another nice feature of the fridge was the type of stainless steel material they used which resists fingerprints and streaking from cleaning. Nice!

I did try to use Consumer Reports, but the models they had ratings for were not in the stores I visited, or vice versa. There was some helpful info from CS though, including reliablilty ratings for the various manufacturers and what features to look for and things like that. Subscribe to their online service, you'll get a lot out of it.

Good luck.

I've always had great luck with Frigidaire products. I've got a fridge, dishwasher and range that is 20+ yrs old that still works well. And I just got a new Frididare 3 1/2 ton A/C sytem last year because they had the best warranty in the business(10yrs on the compressor and 8 on everything else) and it's been great.

If you see a comparable Whirlpool or Maytag for less buy them, they all come from the same place. Whirlpool owns Maytag and Fridgedaire.

Electrolux owns Frigidaire, not Whirlpool. And no, they do not all come from the same place.

I have a Frididaire Window AC unit - it is very loud and I had an electrical problem with it. They're service is not good - I ended up fixing it myself. I'd go with GE if it fits your budget.

I have a Frigidaire chest type freezer and also a Frigidaire dishwasher.

They are both 4 years old and I have had no problems with them at all.

Both were purchased at Lowes.

I was looking for a cooking range recently, so I was investigating home appliances as well. Where would you guys rather buy from: Sears or Best Buy?

I would also consider CostCo, Lowe's and Home Depot.

Whatever you decide... stay away from GE appliances.... particularly refridgerators.

we got a frigidaire once, we needed a replacement pronto for a busted hotpoint firdge........... all i can say is the F in frigidaire must stand for ***** crap. i dont think it was too long before something went wrong and the water/moisture draining plug got damaged and all the water backed up and froze, the bottom shelf of the fridge was forever wet.

got an AEG/Electrolux now.... its awesome even though they seem to own frigidaire. ill admit the frigidaire experience was a while back...and it was once of the cheapest free standing fridges you could buy. it was really just a stop gap, which was just as well.

i dunno about range cookers though, i didnt know they made them.

all i can reccommend is bosch washing machines, and rangemaster range cookers.

we have a frigidaire in the office now, though its too new to really say anything about its reliability. it can get damn cold though...it was on -3 the other day! hoho!

If those are your only options, I'd go with Sears on principle alone. But check the other home/hardware-y stores.

Go to your local library and read the issue of consumer reports that covers the appliances you're buying.

Bestbuy would be my last place to buy Appliances.

Lowes, HomeDepot, and Sears would be my first 3. Also check out eBay as some dealers will set sets much cheaper then local places even including shipping. Costco sells some if oyu have them around.

Consumer reports is good for general brand name recommendations (they keep track of repair rates for the various appliances). The main problems with CS is they only update their direct reviews every couple of years (so chances are the items they reviews are no longer in the marketplace due to models being changed almost every 6 months at stores) and they tend to only review appliances available on the west coast (a lot of manufacturers have different models for different places in the country or models specific to certain store chains that wind up being regional rather than national).

Usually on the stuff they review...unless the review is less than 4 months old or so...you have about 10% chance of actually finding any of the appliances they review.

Why, out of curiosity? Is your opinion based on their prices, service or something else?

I'm in the market to buy a washer and dryer soon, so that's why I'm asking.

Seems to have a of customer issues when there are problems. All places that sell appliances will have some stories but BB seems to have a lot more. Also the 3 I said either have repair people built into there business or have many contrcats for such.
Of course their "history" in other areas does not help this image either.

BestBuySux Web-Site

Also you can get 10% off coupons fro Lowes and Homedepot pretty easy.

I am very happy with my Frigidaire appliances.

Bought a new HE front loader washer about 6 months ago and love it!
Also had a dryer and stove for about 3 years and had zero problems with them.

I'd recommend Sears. They have great support and sell maintenance agreements that can save you big $$ in the event of appliance failure.

Whirlpool is generally pretty good, they have excellent parts availability and are easy to service as they are one of the top brands out there.

we have Frigidaire range/oven, two door fridge, microwave, dishwasher, washer, and dryer and they work great.

I love the stainless steel! They are brand spanking new too, very nice appliances.

You're right, I had it mixed up with Amana, which Whirlpool owns now.
