Starting this Sunday, at Best buy, RKByte RAM (described in title) will be $79.99 - 40.00 MIR. I'll be damned if that isn't pretty damn nice.

Think of it this way - Crucial PC2700 is gonna run ya $60 to $70 on newegg, plus shipping. At least with Best Buy, you can 90-day same-as-cash it. By the time you have it paid off, your $40 rebate has arrived.

but is this a solid brand? such as lifetime warranty. Past couple of computers i've built i've gone with crucial for it's dependability. Can this memory hold up to the same standard and not give problems?

I haven't the slightest idea about the quality of this memory. I'll check with the guys at BB when I'm in there tomorrow. If they techs say they see a buttload of returns on it, this deal goes from hot to not in 60 seconds.

Kbyte is very similar to PNY. They don't make the memory. They simply buy it from other manufacturers and put their sticker on it. I have seen Elixir, Nanya, and others sold by Kbyte. Not too bad ....

I have 1GB of Crucial PC2100 and don't want to speed money on need Ram. Are PC2100 compatible with Dell 4550 I just ordered? How much speed advantage of using PC2700 over PC2100?

my personal experince with the K-byte ram is that it sucks. would not play nice with samsung , crucial, or mushkin ram in various systems of mine. the ram was only reliable when used as the only ram in the system , and only at relaxed timings.

2 different sticks of K-byte bought at different times, 1 stick had Elixir chips and the other had Nanya chips. I have several sticks of PNY with Nanya chips and they are fine.

just my personal results.........

I bought this 2 weeks ago when they had a $30 rebate. It works fine in my 4550 that I got 2 weeks ago with the free palm deal. I have it in with the 128 stick that came with the Dell. Anybody know how I can get the extra $10 from BB?? I have the plastic it came in but I sent the whole card in with the sku for the rebate.

my kbyte ram has exactly the same problem, BSOD or explorer errors with my crucial. Both works perfectly fine alone. I think some motherboards(my abit kg7) just don't like it. Still, I'll be at best buys right when it opens to get a stick, too good of a deal to pass up.

I bought 2 sticks of K-Byte PC133 and it was junk. BSOD @ 133 FSB when more than 1 stick was installed. Returned it for two more. I looked at over 10 sticks and no two of them had chips from the same mfgr. I got my money back and bought two sticks of Crucial.

74.99 - 35 = $40 rebate at my bestbuys

FYI,
i brought 2 sticks,
6ns VT chips - (versatrak)generic ram company?
6-3-3-2.5 pc 2700
made in taiwan

fails prime 95 in under 5 minutes with any other slower timing(5-3-3-2.5, 6-2-2-2.5, 7-2-2-2.5, 6-3-32.0 all failed)
tried it with 2.77, 2.90 volts, all failed
175mhz failed so it can't even do 10 mhz over.
This is 2 sticks running on a epox 8rda+

Good for deal for non-overclockers.
There were some 7 ns chips also marked pc2700, so kbyte varies.

Edit failed memtest after 15 mintues @ 6-3-3-2.5, trying 8-4-4-2.5 :(
Edit 2: rearranged the ram on my system, it runs at 6-3-3-3.5 with prime 95 for 12 hours and memtest for 12 hours.

Has anyone had any K-byte PC2700 running at 333Mhz in A Dimension4550 with a 533FSB?

In the FW thread on this deal some one said:

"Does anyone in here can tell me what is the memory speed when using this K-Byte (BestBuy) memory with Dell 4550?
I tried a few memory stick from Centon(Microcenter going for 72.99 with 20 rebate) and even K-Byte (Frys) and both of them showed a speed of 266MHZ instead of 333MHZ. When I put in a generic frys memory it shows up as 333MHZ..."
"...BTW, my system is P4 2.66MHZ fsb 533MHZ
To find out about the memory speed, When the computer first boot up, press F2 on the keyboard, once you get inside the BIOS, go down to Memory Configurator in there, it will tell you the total memory size, the speed, and also the AGP Apenture(spelling).
The 2 retail sticks of Centon memory that I bought recently are still showing @266MHZ eventhough on the retail box, it claimed to be DDR 333MHZ. Funny thing is my original 128MB from Dell and the generic stick I bought from Frys will shows 333MHZ for the total mem of 640MB
The system is still running since the motherboard seems to support both PC2700(333MHZ) and PC2100(266MHZ). However, I don't want to buy the memory and then later have to return it if the memory is claimed to run at 333MHZ and will only shows up as 266MHZ on the Dell."
