Friggin' ice storms....

Man, I hate ice storms in Texas... my Dad's at a motel for the night because the weather is so bad... it took him four hours to get roughly halfway home from work (30 miles), and the freeways are at a virtual standstill... all this for half an inch of ice! :|

ha---took me 45 minutes getting outa school cuz the F***ing dumbass didn't think to bring an ice scrapper and everyone wanted to use mine....

oh and many people don't know how to drive on the ice here in texas so we had like 3 wrecks withing 1/4th mile of hte school in a very short ammount of time

Same problem here in Oklahoma. I waiting for a call to come into work because some idiot can't make it in. The worst part is that I live farther away than anyone.

Ah, that sucks man. Freezing rain is the worst. I remember one day I woke up and there was an inch of solid ice on EVERYTHING. The city shut down.

i remember the ice storm up here in 1998 😛 now that was an ice storm 😉 some people didn't have electricity for 3 weeks +

oh yeah, I was lucky enough to miss that. Didn't some parts have no electricity for like a month? It was funny driving up there afterwards because the trees were all bent over because of the weight from the ice....some were totally bent to the ground!

maybe a month in the very rural areas. i was only out for 3 days 😛 walking around the Chateau Laurier was dangerous, lol :Q

Yeah, that's what makes it ridiculous... half an inch of ice is NOTHING compared to what Chicago and some of the northern states are getting right now... if they'd just put salt on the roads here instead of sand we'd be fine...

Having driven in both snow and ice, I must say that I would take Chigago's 6-10 inches of snow over 0.1 inches of ice any day. Snow is predictable and offers significantly more traction than ice. Even at <5 mph on ice you can easily end up facing in a direction completely opposite your intended one. Give me snow any day. I remember one day I went out after a freezing rain storm and my car was literally frozen to the driveway. It wasn't anything that couldn't easily be broken out of, but it was interesting. That same storm also froze my doors shut, had to chip the ice away with my keys.

Rich: We're recieving some of your storm right now! 🙂 I'm glad since I'm 16, and school will be out tommorow.

We get those here sometimes as well. One winter, we didn't see any snow but had like 15 ice storms. It sucks ass. One time I had to take a hairdryer to my car to get the damn door open so I could get in and get it started. The whole car was covered by 1" of ice.
