Friends new HP Computer, pci-e video card installed but driver not working

Hello, I have a friend who is having a huge issue at the moment with her new HP Pavilion p6733w Desktop PC. I am not near by any means and tried to help over the phone but I fear what I did caused no solution. However in the end there was no change, for better or worse to the situation.

So she had a friend who is good with computers (currently cant help, at work) come over to install her old PCI-e graphics (Nvidia 9500GT), and everything worked perfectly. Screen looked good, everything was fine. Then she moved it to her room, not a far walking distance from the kitchen where it was worked on. When she turned it on, everything she says was large and blurry. Like if no drivers installed (said "everything looks horrible, blurry and big"). Monitor is 23" and at 1920x1080, 32bit depth, 59hz. All that is been double checked in Win7 and Nvidia control panel. Driver settings for the 9500GT in device manager look fine too.. Tried both DVI ports, made sure bios settings were right (HP one seems simplified...), and the device was using the Nvidia display adapter in the Windows hardware list.

The integrated Ati 4200 catalyst program and stuff was still on there when the person put in the nVidia settings. Albeit weird hanging/crashing issues with uninstalling the catalyst program, we rid both the Ati drivers and program, thinking that the PCI-e Nvidia card was trying to use those for some reason. im 99% sure I cleared them entirely. Also for safe measure we reinstalled the NVidia ones but nothing changed. Bios says use PCI-e graphic adapter too... I cant think whats happening. Any help would be a huge leap, because im at a loss. Thanks so much

I am assuming you are talking about a desktop HP? Everything worked when the old PCI-E video card was installed at this "knowledgeable persons" place but when she returned to "her normal spot" the display no longer appeared correct? Is this what you are saying? If so she might want to re-seat the PCI-E card as it is possible it became dislodged when the tower was moved, that would be my first guess.

If I read your post correctly, she has both integrated graphics and a separate graphics card that was just installed, which means she should have two VGA ports. Silly question, but after the move did she plug the monitor back in to the port for the old on-board graphics or the new card that was just installed?

Hmm, sorry about my grammar in the original post. I was a bit rushed and just wanted to post this really fast so I could take a break. So to answer:

1) its set to 1920x1080 just like the resolution for her new 23"
2) its a desktop HP. The person who made it good the first time did it in her kitchen. So it was only moved two rooms.
3) She knows a bit about computers and she put it in the other PCI slot for some reason, and didnt work (or no change or something, didnt ask more into it as it didnt seem important as it worked originally in the other). Then put it back in the one that originally worked but no luck. No change.
4) She did try to move it from the right DVI to the left DVI port. no change.

Ill clean up my original post. Thanks guys so far 🙂

Well since all the drivers are correct, the video settings too, I would then try clearing the CMOS, by moving the jumper to the reset position and removing the battery for 15 seconds and moving the jumper back. That may help.

Hello all, I would like to say that this problem has been fixed... Unfortunately no one I talked to or myself didnt think about till the end. So the computer was moved like 2 rooms... but I guess along the way or at some point one of the pins got bent (The side connecting to the monitor oddly enough...). That was the issue. Ive only had that happen to me once so it never crossed my mind.

She complains that her new monitor has a weird color issue in games (like real games not flash ones on a web browser) that makes yellow/green colors look "like a bad neon color". However I think its not the Nvidia settings but rather the new 23" HP Monitor. Oh well, her friend will fix it.

Ty all for the help 🙂
