Friend's GeForce and DVI problems

OK, here is a synopsis of my friend's problem.

He has a Dell XPS (it's fairly old now) with a 128 MB GeForce FX 5200 and a brand new Dell 2005FPW LCD. Unfortunately, he cannot get the graphics card to output a DVI signal to the LCD.

I went over to his place last night to help solve this problem and tried everything I could think of. His monitor/cable work just fine, as I tested both with my machine using DVI. So there is either some problem with the card or the drivers. I installed the latest drivers 71.89, and played with every setting to no avail. I'd set the card to output on device 2 (DVI - digital), and still nothing. I cloned the desktop, still nothing on DVI. It always reverts to the analog connection. I am stumped. It absolutely refuses to output DVI to the LCD. I believe that I have narrowed it down to 1 of 2 possibilities: 1) the drivers aren't fully functional with this card/there are driver issues or 2) the GeForce FX 5200 DVI output hardware is faulty.

If you have any suggestions, comments, or need more info, please let me know. Thanks!
