Friends computer stopped working...

My friends computer just stopped working, he gets the error msg from his SPEAKERS that says "System failed CPU test" over and over from a womens voice. It is just a black screen, and you cannot do ANYTHING at all on the computer. We tried changing the Hard Drive and ressetting the CMOS and both did not help at all. We also tried making sure all the wires and parts were secure, we tried switching the Ram DIMM locations but nothing was different.

His specks are:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 754 Clawhammer
Asus K8V s8 deluxe
1024mb Corsair CMX 512 3200 C2 Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

We think it is either the CPU or the MOBO, could it be either one? Is this a virus? And what should I try to attempt to fix it?

Also be sure to re-seat the CPU and make sure the heatsink is properly attached. Other than that, try to boot the system with the minimal configuration - cpu, video card, 1 stick of ram, power supply (unplug everything else).

If that doesn't get it to boot, then the only other option left is to swap-out the parts that are left. But since it's telling you you have cpu problem, I'd try that first if you have another a64 around anywhere.
