My friend spilled water on her apple powerbook, and this was like last week, so whatever damage is done - is done. So, she needs to get some files off the computer, but cant enter the password because one of the keys in the password is one of the keys that does not work - all of them work but 5. So, my questions are...

1. can i plug a keyboard into it via USB and somehow use it?
2. There is no way to get these keys back, right? I am not too good with insides of computers - i can change ram and install drives, but beyond that - nothing.

if i CAN do 1, can i just plug it in and it will automatically work or do i have to change a setting or download some program or something to get that keyboard working and the other not? - or does it kinda work like an external mouse...

if I CAN'T do 1, what CAN i do?

Also, mac is saying $800 to fix, but don't you think I could take it to some local computer place and they could fix it for a lot cheaper - and how much do you think?

Water spillage on laptop keyboard is bad...indeed just plug in external keyboard and pray it works.
